Wouldn't this be one of those times where you have three more games in the first half of the season, and can afford to play everyone (not quite) to find out what you get, because you can still red shirt them. Particularly this week when you are at home and don't have to worry about bumping into a travel roster??

I thought that 6 games was the cutoff only if there's an injury and that it's 2 games otherwise.

If there is a "medical reason" that ND "shuts down" a player then ithe stips are they cannot play more than 20% of the season's games before the first 6 games. This is the gray area because ND has to petition the NCAA with medical info and the NCAA has to review and accept. If you don't play at all, it goes as a auto-redshirt once. Then the 5 years to play four rule applies.

I'm bummed to see he's either not making a smooth transition, or, picking up defensive scheme, or whatever the damn reason is......I'd play just about anybody at this point ahead of Cole Luke. He's not been very good for us this season.......at ALL!!!!

Troy is on the travel roster today. BK says he could see field today.

The season is already over can we just preserve his redshirt at this point.

Troy played a ton of snaps on Saturday. And at Coach Kelly's press conference today he gushed about Troy Pride. He has liked him since beginning of camp and since he took charge of defense he basically said Pride has to play.

Add Troy to the list of players Kelly has called out BVG for not playing sooner or more.

I particularly like that BK raved about him based on how Pride looked against our first team WR's.

It may not translate much this year, but Love, Vaughn and Pride could be a pretty fearsome trio at CB some day.

I really like the young talent on D and I bet the right guy to turn this around by next season.

And he mentioned his recovery speed is outstanding. A nice skill for a CB.

Thoughts on his play yesterday? How do you guys grade him out?

I watched the game at a loud gathering so I saw the bad stuff replayed but need to rewatch today with the remote. Maybe I'll just watch the 1st quarter...

I don't think he played as bad as it seemed. He got picked on and had just one blatant pass interference, the other one wasn't that bad. The one catch on third down where the guy lost his shoe was blanket coverage. He did get away with a PI in the final drive on a pass incomplete over the middle where he pretty much blocked out the guy from getting to the spot. I thought several times he had blanket coverage but the throws we're just money passes. I will say he needs to keep his composure better because the one time he look like he punched the dude and knock the ball away clearly after the play was done. Looked very frustrated there, but he will be picked on I think a lot. But for a freshman in his third game playing, not bad.....oh and the punt that hit him, that's on CJ Sanders, took way too long to call him off and at that point it was too late

He got picked one but kept battling and didn't check himself out of the game like one corner did after the first couple games of the season and we haven't seen him since. Love the kids "grit"

Id give him about a C-C+. He has great speed, especially recovery speed but right now he is inexperienced and very very small. Until he adds about ten pounds of bulk and get more experience, he will struggle against pass catchers 6'2 and over. I watched him in interviews in HS last year and he's an A+ kid in terms of smarts and attitude so, I think he'll be just fine in the long run.

I do agree with previous poster that I can't blame him to much on the punt. And at least two catches against him were just incredible ball placement and catch by the receivers, he had great coverage.

I still contend the diving catch on the sideline was not a catch and the ball hit the ground.

How can you not blame him on that punt fumble? He has to know where the ball is, they practice this stuff all the time. Well nevermind Brian Kelly said they don't have time to practice special teams during the season.

1. Sanders made a late "fire" call.
2. Why can't CJ run up to the ball and waive for a fair catch, that would take any chance of hitting a teammates leg out of the equation.

Just my opinion though, I'm not the coach.

Actually, I'm pretty sure, by Kelly's own admission, that they don't...

He's a keeper. Just needs more experience.

Kelly after reviewing the film said CJ was close enough that he needed to catch the ball. CJ played a bit indecisively on special teams Saturday.

Yep. Thank you for confirming. I think Fink should take majority of punts going forward.
