Let's say Demetris picks Notre Dame. Just for giggles, let's say that happens.

Anyone think he sticks more than a season?

I think when he doesn't start on day 1, Carlos blows his lid and tries to sue Notre Dame for being unfair.

I've posted before I don't think this is going to be a good fit if he does end up here. Having said that, if he comes to ND and his brother stays out of his way, then I guess he really just had DRob's best interest at heart and isn't a control freak.

Do you think Claypool can be a 'superstar'? Or as likely to become one as Robertson?

Yea, I think Claypool has that type of upside. However, I think Robertson is a day 1 impact player. Provided he has his head about him, he'll be a stud, regardless of where he goes. I think Claypool can get there but Robertson already is.

Also, I think that Claypool could end up at another position making the comparison difficult. And if he were to end up on defense and become an impact player there, one could argue, that provides more value to ND than a dynamic WR, that we seem to have a lot of.

My prediction is this all depends on how this year's offense works out. The coaches should spend a year adding 20-25 pounds to Claypool's frame, and have him follow Alize around practice. If Alize finds success moving all round the positions creating mismatches; it only makes sense that Claypool be the heir to that roll - assuming it works.

I realize what you are saying but his skillset is much more unique to our defense than it is to our offense. We do not have an OLB with his size plus athleticism. We have other big, outside WR's. We're bringing in Cole Kmet as a flex out TE option. Weishar can play that role as well and Alize will be here for at least 2 more seasons, I think more than likely 3 more. We don't have that many, if any, 6'3-6'4 guys on defense that can move like Claypool. That unqiue skillset, much like what Crawford is to the Nickel position, adds more value to the defense, IMO.

But Lucci, do you even think he'd be utilized well by our current defensive staff? I dont. I don't think Jayson was utilized well either, I realize he won the award bUT for instance, him having 1 sack is ridiculous.

I agree, and recent interviews says that Jaylon believes as much, as well. However, that's a different conversation all together. I have no idea how BVG would use him but I also don't think that's the point. You don't take a player and put him on offense just because you don't have confidence in your DC to properly suit the game to this specific player. You put the player on offense or defense depending on his skillset and how it can contribute to the team. My general point is, that if we have multiple players on offense with this general skillset and very few, if any, on defense. Then, I'd start him on defense.

With the bolded said, I think he could be quite dangerous in the role they are going to have Tranquill playing. Hybrid S/OLB role or at SAM LB, where he can play on the edge.

I hope he doesn't pick us, because I think you're right...he's the kind of kid that doesn't stick around.

I agree that Claypool would be great at LB and happy to see that. However, I think Kelly loves having multiple options and depth on the O side - even if he doesn't go deep without injuries. Having multiple big targets and multiple speed targets is a great problem to have. Then you look at the thin D depth charts and shake your head - but that seems to be the M.O.

Marquez Callaway
Warner Robins (Ga.) high school
Cornerback/Wide Receiver
Signed: Tennessee

“I say Notre Dame,” said Callaway. “You can’t beat what they offer. Not knocking the other schools, but life after football is a lot easier there. I don’t know if that’s his reasoning, but I just feel like that’s the place.”

I still dont understand how this kid didnt end up signing with ND.

Tough to read that. I thought he was 100% on the way to South Bend after Invasion last year.

Yeah, I'm honestly kind of pissed we didn't offer. Very good athlete, wanted to be here. I always like taking kids that want to be here. Think he could've played on either side of the ball, and I think it was silly to pass on him... but maybe the staff saw something in camp they were iffy about. In general, I just don't really see how you pass on someone like him, but that's why I don't coach football.

Agreed, definitely on the list of guys that we didn't offer in hopes of signing McCulloch, Kelly, Drob, etc. My only beef with last cycle was, once again, leaving players like him on the table.

We offered early... maybe in '14 even. Are you saying he didn't have a committable offer at the end? I don't really remember the specifics without looking it up but I'm sure they offered.

I hope Robertson comes. He's my starting KR Day 1 and maybe PR if he beats out CJS (or maybe the Finkster). I give him a chance at WR and if he's a sterter from Day 1... good for him. If he falls behind I move him to Adoree Jackson Corner spot. i always liked what I saw of him as a DB in his film.

Now, if he leaves after that. Oh well.

I guess Eason looked like a better Matt Stafford in the spring game so if you wanna get to Sunday, tying yourself to a can't miss QB is a good move.

If I recall correctly, I believe he was told that he was behind Stepherson on our board. Once he popped, the writing was on the wall.

But when he came to camp, I loved the tape they had on him. He's a very fluid athlete. I wish the staff would have taken him as well.

Yeah, after the Invasion... where he apparently looked pretty good, too... he wasn't a take. I thought this was quite odd at the time, and after NSD the guys at 247 did a write up where they talked about it and how puzzling it was.

I just don't really know how you pass on someone with his athletic abilities, but whatever nothing we can do now and I'm routinely very wrong about this stuff.

I also think the staff may have thought we had Robertson in the bag.

They should really start taking the whole "bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" strategy. We seem to get burnt on that a lot.

Yes, I meant committable offer. Should've specified.

Thanks guys.

I would NEEEEVER turn down a High 4 star / mid 90's Comp WR/DB prospect. Especially one from Warner frickin Robbins, GA! All it means is one more 5th year student gets started on a free masters at another school if playing after graduating is important to him.

I'm kinda sick right now, might have to pop a couple of Xanex, grab a beer or six and read Calloway's entire thread...

Hopefully, Its been my only real complaint with recruiting recently.

Every time I find closure with Calloway's recruitment, you guys seem to bring it back up. Ugh.

That kid should've been Irish. You don't turn away athletes like him. At the very least he would've been a crucial depth player.

Same here. Anna raved about him at II, said no one was even close to his athleticism. Then every Scout update after had ND as top or extremely positive comments about ND. Then nothing.

Just changed his decision date from May 2nd, to this Sunday at 1pm EST.

Also, expected to visit Georgia Saturday night.

1. Going to Georgia to break the bad news to them personally. Then announcing on Sunday for dramatic effect. Looked for guidance, prayed over it, .......

or

1. Going to Georgia to personally tell them the good news.
2. Announcing on Sunday while the ND coaches and families are in church to avoid any calls.

So after he announces, since he won't have signed a LOI, other teams can continue to recruit him until fall when he physically shows up somewhere, right?

If so, even if he doesn't announce for Georgia (which he will), I think that's where he goes.

Tom, update your CB.

"I'm not sure I am ready or want to pick Georgia here quite yet. I haven't received anything concrete. Some people at ND, UGA and even CAL are confident. I'm still going to keep digging on this one for the next few days."

Freshman football players show up on campus in the middle-end of June. So, he'll be showing up at a campus around then. But you are right, this is not over and I think that's the point. They are really trying to milk this, I wonder why?
