Love ya, man. But I totally disagree. Trumbetti was a composite .9437 and a top 10 SDE recruit in the country. He came in as a freshman as a grown man. He played in 12 games and started in our bowl game. Which he played well in. This kid is a true sophomore coming off actual playing time that showed that he could play. In my opinion, when it's said in done... Any DL recruit is going to have their hands full taking that crown jewel from Trumbetti.

It's just so strange to me that with this kid missing spring with injury, people seemingly are now discounting his potential.

Obviously this is all opinion. But the last time I had this feeling for a sophomore having his coming out party... It was Tuitt.

You make a great point. I guess my frustration is with DE rush DE recruiting other than Trumbetti. I am as high on him as you are, no doubt - I think he will most certainly leave his mark before all is said and done. I just feel he shouldn't be the only one I guess. God forbid he goes down? Who's next man in? Okwara? Not great and sometimes invisible. Could Ishaq be that guy (if stars aline)? Lot of ifs there. If Trubetti can stay healthy and progress like we should expect from year one, we'll be in good shape. But what happens when he goes down? I'm just really disappointed in rush DE recruiting as a whole since 2011.

I don't get it why some of you are willing to take a pass on this kid. It's not like top flight D lineman are flocking to ND's door. Have some of you already forgotten the CW yrs? Where if we missed on our #1. There was basically no backup plan.

Problem is that Kemp seems destined for the interior, and we are stacked at that position, so this year, interior guys are not a take unless they are elite or the staff REALLY likes him (as it was with Claypool). They need pass rushing style DE's and he's not that. He's a Strong Sider, and more likely a 3-tech in the future. Would like him regardless, but they aren't rushing anything. They're still in it for plenty of DL prospects.

It's simply not true that 3 techs dont rush anything. In fact most 4-3 (3 techs) are attacking style DT's that accumulate good sack and TFL numbers. Day has the ability but hasn't put together a complete season.

I can't go one day on a message board without reading this. What ND needs more is developing the DE's we have. Very very little chance, almost regardless of who we sign, that they are taking the starting roles from either Trumbetti, Blankenship, or Bonner as Juniors. I'll also throw in Hill as these guys were good prospects coming out. Trumbetti was a top 150 DE. Blakenship basically top 250 and Hill's senior film was scary good. But they need TIME. The most frustrating thing about seeing this everywhere is it's such an obviously dumb thing to say. We want elite players at EVERY position that goes without saying. Not sure we need to continuously post it. The word need should be used for depth purposes and more focus should be placed on developing the players we have. Betiku is 100% stud, best in class kind of guy, use all the superlatives you want, love it. He's not going to start as a freshman and get us 10 sacks, just not happening. So the best way to fix this need that we have is through the roster.

Remember Andrew Williams, stud DE from GA that went to Auburn. Well he took a RS. So, if we got him would we still have this need for DE's? Solomon Thomas RS, Malik McDowell RS, Chad Thomas RS. It is very hard to remember that we do have some talented guys who are in the wings just itching to get out there. I think we are in a much better spot that we anticipate, just inexperienced.

Stratton is 30 mins from Kansas line, 2 hours from Denver or the Springs. I was thinking more of the connection to the Buffs being in Boulder than anything. Still stinging from the "phantom clip" on Rockets return back in the day against. Sure there are plenty of great people there. Love the whole state of Colorado.

Don't think he is a must get. Think his ceiling is pretty low and we could find a raw guy who ends up better than him. We have enough depth that no one will have to play right away anyway. He's a nice player but a little overrated IMO.

I'm basically 50/50 on this kid. I think he's a solid player that will be productive in college. However, I don't see him staying at DE long term. I see a Rochelle type where he's a SDE early on growing into a 3T. And I agree with your assessment that his ceiling is low and with depth in front of him, we can afford to take a wait and see approach.
