The best part of following a team who doesn't use last names on the jersey is that instead of being like that guy with an Alfonso Soriano jersey at a Cubs game, I am now the owner of a Troy Pride jersey.

Yep... and with any of my other teams I either have a classic player that is forever tied (Like Tim Salmon for my Halos or Kevin Mack for my Browns) or I just put my own last name on the damned thing... If I'm going to spend all that money I'm only doing it if I know I can rock if the rest of my days.

Per Eric Hansen of SBT:

#NotreDame coach Brian Kelly said DE Daelin Hayes has a labrum tear and is out for the season; CB Shaun Crawford is out 3-4 weeks with a dislocated elbow. WR Chase Claypool has a right ankle injury that should not affect him in practice.

Maybe silly question but any chance these Senior Bowl guys don't participate in whatever bowl (citrus) we go to?

No way. Better to ball out in a bowl game than in the Senior Bowl, but more eyes on you are more eyes on you so many do both to try and increase their draft eligibility. Typically they participate in both, or none at all if they're possibly a high draft pick and don't want to get injured.

While i hear you on the importance of balling out in a highly televised bowl game (hope we make it to one of those), the Senior Bowl has the Staff's of two pro teams coaching them all week, and then the scouts of every team in attendance. That seems like a pretty important week of time to shine for Chase and others.

(not suggesting that he would or should sit for any bowl game)

I don't see any of the guys sitting out the bowl game. It just not what this team, or this program, or ND as a university is about. I think they will all want to suit up one more time alongside their boys to get a big win for the program. Hope I'm right because I would be disappointed if any of them do sit willfully.

if any of them do sit, the most likely one is Claypool though

Throughout this season, Claypool has put his body on the line to help ND win games. I wouldn't be disappointed if he decided to say "enough is enough" after the Stanford game. I'm rooting first and foremost for seniors to do well in the next phase of their career. We all know how these extra games can hinder a player's professional aspirations after Jaylon's freak injury in the Cotton Bowl.

Thought that injury occurred vs pOSU in Fiesta Bowl?

For NFL evaluation the Senior Bowl is significantly more important than the Cotton Bowl or any bowl for that matter. It's an entire week of scouting practices, cameras on every rep, NFL brass interactions, etc. Not even close.

He actually said he had no regrets and would still play in the game if he had to do it over again.

No one with a potential NFL contract on the line would prefer to blow out multiple knee ligaments. I don't care how positive he's being about it in retrospect.

I'm sure some live life only worrying about the bottom line but some also enjoy the ride along the way.

I think the story line of the comeback was probably worth the injury for Jaylon. If he went top 5 he could have been one of those slightly disappointing stories (even Clowney is slightly disappointing and he has had a very good career). As it is he is a really great comeback story.

How much did Claypool play at WR in his freshman year? Should he have cross trained at LBer that year?.....bracing for a barrage of tomato's.

I think I remember him balling out on special teams.

31 remembers correctly. Played in all 12 games. Led Special Teams in Tackles making 8 of ND's 19 tackles on punt coverage. Also had 6 receptions averaging 13.5 ypc as a WR.

#83 CHASE CLAYPOOL
FRESHMAN SEASON (2016)

  • Became the eighth player from Canada to appear in varsity action for Notre Dame
  • Played in all 12 games
  • One of 10 true freshmen (Troy Pride Jr., Devin Studstill, Donte Vaughn, Jalen Elliott, Julian Okwara, Daelin Hayes, Kevin Stepherson, Julian Love and Jamir Jones) who played in at least eight games
  • One of seven true freshmen (Troy Pride Jr., Devin Studstill, Donte Vaughn, Jalen Elliott, Daelin Hayes and Julian Love) to register at least 11 tackles
  • Led the Irish in special teams tackles with 11 and punt-return tackles with eight
  • Registered eight of Notre Dame’s 19 tackles on punt coverage
  • Recorded six receptions for 81 yards, good for an average of 13.5 yards per reception
  • Amassed 90 all-purpose yards, including a career-best 33 against Michigan State (Sept. 17)
  • Had one catch for 33 yards against the Spartans
  • Registered a nine-yard rush in the win vs. Nevada (Sept. 10)

His HS film was better at LB than WR. I was actually disappointed when they put him on offense.
