crazy year for WR's.
CeeDee Lamb, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, Tee Higgins, Tyler Johnson, Justin Jefferson, KJ Hamler, KJ Hill are all high end guys.

Theres quite a few others that arent necessarily household names that are getting drafted towards the top: Laviska Shenault Jr, Jalen Reagor, Gabriel Davis, Brandon Aiyuk

Michael Pittman Jr too. The kid can play.

I'd be surprised if he ran a low 40. I don't recall him getting very much separation with exception to his underneath drag routes.

That being said, there's an art to getting open and catching contested passes. He'll make a team somewhere and have a very good career.

Look for him to be around 220lbs when the combine comes.

One trait that might not move him up a teams draft board a lot but will certainly keep him around is his phenomenal special teams play. On a 53 man roster that and his physical attributes will buy him the time to hone any minor deficiencies.

i mean, how does a lb trio of claypool-coney-tranquill sound? elite to me.

I'd have him at <strike>Drop, Shark</strike>, Viper.

He's worked out great at WR but if ND ran a 3-4 or didn't have J Okwara for their 4-3, he'd have been my ROLB or WDE in a heartbeat. His play on ST is daily reminder as to what could have been.

2020 Senior Bowl: Top 7 NFL draft winners from week of practice (NFL.com)

7 biggest winners from the week of Senior Bowl practices
Chase Claypool, WR, Notre Dame. I really enjoyed watching Claypool on tape and couldn't wait to see him perform in person on the Senior Bowl stage. I was not disappointed, and neither were the NFL evaluators in attendance. Not only does he look the part of a big, imposing receiver, he showed off how fluid and natural he is with his movement. He snatched the ball away from his frame with strong hands and created separation using his size and athleticism. The easy comparison for him is former teammate Miles Boykin, who had the same type of size and explosiveness, but Boykin went to the Baltimore Ravens at the end of the third round in last year's draft. Claypool may not last that long now. I think he pushed himself into Round 2 this week.

I'd have him at <strike>Drop, Shark</strike>, Viper.

They are each progressively better than weak side defensive end. That's too much of a mouth full and you cant have weak is your position name. After viper it should progress to 'arse kicker'.

I guess he really is embracing the TE thing. I would have expected him to try and drop weight because his 40 time is really important to his stock if he wants to play WR.

He's not outrunning NFL CB's at 230, 240 or even 215. So put on a few pounds to better handle LB's when blocking from the slot or if he goes to a team that really runs the ball, we could actually see him attached sometimes like the 49ers use Kittle. He's one of the better blocking WR's you will find so with weight why can't he can be an excellent Flex blocker while still having the ball skills to make plays we are used to?

I'm surprised by this. TE is such a risk, IMO. In line is just different than blocking CBs really well.

He was going to be a sure #2 WR in the NFL after a couple of years IMO. I don't like this potential move when he was going to be a high-floor WR, but who knows.

Whoever is advising him on such weight gains probably has information we don't like what he was running in the 40 at 229, feedback from coaches at Senior Bowl, etc. So, they have him gain the weight and hopefully push a new narrative over the next week or two. With that said, I don't think it's something I would've thought heading in to the event.

I still think he would have been a star as an OLB in a more standard 4-3 or 3-4 (which position does not really exist for ND).

I would think you go to the combine at the previous weight and compete the best you can. If those numbers are too low then you use pro day to push the new narrative or in this case position flex.

I don't think you're wrong but this year might be an exception because it is really, really deep for WR but not for TE.

Completely reasonable. And there is very important information that I don't have so I'm not planting a flag on this hill, or anything like that. Just would've thought (maybe we wanting to see it as well) they'd use the combine to try and measure up with the rest of the WR class and make the change at the Pro Day.

Also, the "TE" has changed. TE's aren't born any more. They are manufactured. Of the 8 TE's who had 700+ yds in 2019, 2 played TE in HS and one of those, Zach Ertz, was a Flex at Stanford. The rest are converted WR's or QB's. The two guys who played inline in college were Austin Hooper and Travis Kelce... who BK & Quinn switched from a back up QB.

I think he has the perfect skill set to be one of the legue leaders at this new breed of highly productive TE's plus his tenacity as a blocker and his nastiness that he shows in ST's kinda separate him from the rest the Top offensive TE's coming out of college except maybe Kelce.
