I was just wondering about him... glad to see he is not completely in the dog house.

Not gonna lie. I forgot he was on the team.

6’2”, 220lbs, has the size to go over defenders, has the size to be a solid blocker on the perimeter. Now let’s see if he can actually play. I hope he gets on the field more in his last year or two.

I really think the success we've had will help prevent transfers... At least I hope so

I think having guys like Boykin, Coney, Bilal, Dex etc are good role models for these guys when they are either in the doghouse or not getting a ton of PT. These guys all are starters and can relate to these guys.

Bama goes through this every year. Talent sits until talent leaves.

Mark me down as someone who hopes to see Javon make his triumphant return next year.

When he signed, Crusader had me sold on his ability to dominate.

Let's say Boykin and Claypool both test the NFL waters and (gasp) decide to leave...

Austin and McKinley on the outside, with healthy doses of Braden Lenzy and Micah Jones spelling them???

That leaves Finke in the slot (he has another year, right?), and Michael Young getting plugged in here-and-there like he does now. The only thing to do at that point is to figure out how to get Keys involved.

(BK hates using more than 4 WR's if he can help it, so the above is unlikely. There's also a good chance that Boykin and Claypool are both back.)

Luckily we have a coach on staff with first hand experience with this kind of charge and can guide him through it.

One of the last people on the roster I'd expect to get arrested on charges like that. Wonder if this is a Tommy Rees-esque run from the cops where they tack on "battery" for shits and giggles.

I felt he was going to go the same route as DJ Morgan (graduate this summer and have 2 years to play elsewhere) but was going to compete through spring ball to see if he could change his spot on the 2 deep. Welcome to Plan B.

Hopefully this isn't as bad as it sounds and he can get his degree.

Von will forever be the guy that keeps me from replacing Mel Kiper Jr on draft day.

Best of luck to him. He comes from a good family so my guess is, he'll be alright.

That's SOP for all cops *that work the late-night detail outside of places that the college kids frequent*:

1. College kid runs
2. They tackle him
3. "He kicked me while I was trying to cuff him!" even if the kid is peaceful once he goes down
4. Tack on "Battery" charges to make sure the kid gets hit with something, in case he's got a good lawyer

Conspicuously absent from the reports (though not necessarily the police report) is any underlying charges for some type of conduct that warranted police action. So far it's resisting arrest and the ubiquitous battery charge that comes with resisting arrest.

That's SOP for all cops:

1. College WR stands there (because if they say they caught him from behind, they're lying)
2. They tackle him when they wanna wrap up the questioning.
3. Cop scuffs his/her elbow on the take down.
4. Tacks on a "Battery" charge due to the elbow along with a plethora of other trumped up charges to make sure the DA has 10 charges to drop to give him a "sweet plea deal" on the last remaining charge.

3. "He kicked me while I was trying to cuff him!" even if the kid is peaceful once he goes down *If the cop hits back its excessive force
4. Tack on "Battery" charges to make sure the kid gets hit with something, in case he's got a good lawyer

1 reason i give this kid a shot. I have read many stories on here and other articles that some of the police officers around the area have gone a little far at times.

Are the cops in SB that bad? Seriously, I get that there are cops with issues, and they like to nail the college kids and particularly athletes. But mostly my experience as a player and coach has been that they try and help a kid if doing so poses no risk to anyone else...

Anyway, you can't be down the depth chart and get in trouble...just how it works. Hope he gets through whatever this is, and finishes strong even if it is somewhere else.

I moved away 20 years ago but back in the day there were plenty of instances of arrests for things like attending a house party and not consenting to a search.

It's not just SB cops... it's pretty standard for any cop that works the night detail outside of college-town bars.

And it's not that they're *bad* (even though there are good and bad cops, like in every profession).

They're cool to a point, and even ignore/aid the really drunk and stumbling kids to make sure they've got safe transport or a responsible friend in the group... but sometimes they have a bad night, or sometimes they're fed up with the shit, so they decide to get serious with a kid.

The kid is drunk and decides he can make a break for it, the cops take him down, then they lay extra charges down just to make sure there's one that will stick, that way they feel like they didn't waste their time and energy.

SBPD is hit and miss. I know there are a lot of cops that handle things by the book and are not antagonistic. Then there is a group of cops that -- IMO -- hate ND students and do whatever they can to cite, harass, escalated, and provoke ND students if given the opportunity.

Indiana State Excise Police (if those fuckers still exist) are 100x worse. Their entire job is to bust college kids for drinking, and they are known to play very fast and loose with the rules to get their collars and write their fines which pay for their existence. They used to do this thing when I was in school where they'd go to tailgates undercover and ask for beer and when a stranger would given them one they'd say "gotcha!" and write them a huge fine for serving someone "underage." Like what the f*ck kind of existence is that to run sting operations on tailgates? They also have some notorious incidents of "busting" house parties and acting like they're the goddamn ATF raiding Pablo Escobar.
