I was excited to watch his debut but when I read that the Saints reached out to Brees & then signed Blake Bortles, I knew expectations would be low. Yes, his OL was a sieve. Unless COVID remains an issue, this will be his last action in 2021. Would’ve been nice to see him behind a serviceable OL…instead he basically was stuck w/ a bunch of taxi squad bodies. The announcers did everything they could to give him the benefit of the doubt so hopefully his evaluators do too

ND QBs are now 0-24 in their last 24 NFL starts. Amazing. Sad commentary on the state of QB recruiting/development in the program, bluntly.

That was like watching Ian Book play against Clemson in 2018, only this time he had NDs offensive line from the first 4 games in 2021.

Tua definitely asked Book if he was hurt postgame haha. You could see him say “I’m good” with a big sigh. Looks like some kind words

It’s a low blow to hold Book to the 0-23 statline of ND QBs in the NFL. I’m not saying he’s a world beater, but that OL was absolute garbage and there were times when Book held his own in spite of the lack of talent around him on offense. Anyway, he did what he could in very limiting circumstances.

That OL was awful. They were on their 7th OT? I knew they were missing a lot between injuries and COVID, but the effort on their part to protect the QB was just bad. It looked like Book and Payton were adjusting to Miami's defense toward the end of the 2nd quarter and then Book was back to running for his life and taking hits in the backfield in the 2nd half. It was really sad to see how quick Miami was getting to him, just a horrible position to be in for a first start. It's amazing the game was as close as it was, credit the Saints defense for actually showing up.

While the Covid situation decimated the Saints roster last night, I don’t think Book will sniff the NFL field again.

I was just thinking I hope he gets another shot under better circumstances at some point in his career.

As Dale pointed out it doesn't really have anything to do with ND QB development as much as it does shitty circumstances. Kizer and a winless Browns team account for 15 of those 24 losses, and it's a team effort. The last win came with Brady Quinn leading the Chiefs in 2012 after the Belcher suicide. Quinn was better than he gets credit for, but the Browns situation really hurt his career trajectory.

Ian needs a little more time in the league to really relax in the "job." When (and if) he gets that time, he is going to be one of those not-top-gunslingers-but-pretty-darn-solid QBs that teams want to have on their roster. Ian Book is a slow-evolver, and climbs over the barriers at his pace. He gets better against his weaknesses all the time, and his strengths are very strong. Give our guy time. I'd love to see him get to start a few games. He's Tommy three inches shorter and three steps faster. Love them both.

The problem with professional sports though is now. The don’t have the patience to wait.
