I don't overly follow recruiting anymore, but he was probably "handicapped" being only 6ft. The difference between 6-0 and 6-3 is a huge deal to the recruiting people. There is the "prototypical NFL quarterback", and there is 6-0 Drew Brees. Book has the game smarts, whether is he is 6-0 or 6-5.

his performances remind us of how and why QB play remains the most
important singular position in all of team sports

Is everyone SOLD on Ian? Just curious as to how confident the board is?

Obviously he looked amazing out at Wake Forest, but what is everyone's confidence level going into a game against a MUCHHH better defense?

I'm not doubting him at all, just trying to build my own confidence up i guess lol. I just keep thinking, why wouldn't he have been playing this entire time if he was THAT good?? Granted, Kelly clearly wanted to give BW every chance in the world, I get that.

(Again, I'm not trying to be negative at all, just looking for a little reassurance i guess haha, because i LOVEDDD what i saw last week, and praying its the REAL THING)

Figured I’d Re Post this and see where everyone stands now...??? WOW last night was something !

I'm full on homer....

There are soooo many folks that need to throw themselves on a sword..... from atop a 10 story building.

Frickin' stud is right. Guy has ice water in his veins, I've been nothing but impressed in the games he's started. He's just so consistent and efficient, and he takes care of the football. There's nothing more you can really ask from your quarterback.

Total Quarterback Rating - College Football - ESPN

Top Power Five QB’s in QBR

1. Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama
2. Kyler Murray, Oklahoma
3. Will Grier, West Virginia
4. Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State
5. Justin Herbert, Oregon
6. Ryan Finley, NC State
7. Drew Lock, Missouri
8. Ian Book, Notre Dame

Book just qualified for the QBR this week by virtue of playing enough. Pretty awesome company to be in for the kid. Hope he keeps it up!

That’s great. We all know the importance of QB play, think there are only two losses between the 8 of those guys.

If Wimbush had the same play calling and the skill position players liked him as much as they liked Book and if the sun would stop shining and that damn dog would stop barking, then he would probably be top 5. This sarcastic post is being typed as I stare in the mirror back at myself as well, FTR.

Named Maxwell player of the week.

If he continues at this pace, I'll go on record saying he gets into the top 4 heisman talk by year's end if ND wins 11 games.

WAY OT

Can't look at Book without seeing actor Rufus Sewell, who plays Obengruppenfuhrer Smith on Man in the High Castle... which drops on Friday (S3)

Gave him a "high 5" on the players walk!!! Oh, I couldn't be any more or any less 6' tall. I can say with almost 100% accuracy based on science, that Ian is more likely 5'10''.

Not that it matters, dude is a plaaaaaayahhhh

Collective wisdom says that if ND is a playoff team and the offense continues to play this well, we'd have to have somebody in the discussion, right? Book being the most likely candidate. It'll just be interesting to see who the other QB's are in that group and if he is handicapped by missing 3 games of action.

Book's misses

Book's misses

Re-watched the O series today....

For those that were down on Book during the game... All of his misses indexed and described below if you'd like re-watch. I think in fairness, not as bad as some might think, and he was overall 71% for goodness sakes....

In short, going to chalk a few up to Book, a few up to bad routes / miscommunication, and a few to pressure by the D. Being this was only his 3rd game, easy to think timing with the WRs will improve. And, this was on the road in Blacksburg. I hope the coaches continue to call for more long balls vs Pitt and Navy to work on timing and chemistry. Wish they wouldn't have done so much @VT.

Book's incompletes/INT

1Q 7:35 Over thrown to Miles Boykin. Boykin zagged after the ball was in the air
1Q 7:02 Over the head of Boykin. Book got hit. Boykin did not get a good jump.
1Q 0:21 Over thrown to Finke. While Book was in throwing motion, Finke did a hesitation zag
2Q 14:34 Over thrown to Boykin. Even the announcers said Boykin got tied up in traffic and couldn't get there
2Q 8:11 Over thrown to Claypool. Book stepped up as the pocket was collapsing. Book threw to outside of DB, Claypool was inside.
2Q 7:21 Over thrown in traffic to Boykin. Boykin IMO stops too early to set up and jump between two DBs. If he takes two more steps, the timing would have been perfect.
2Q 5:52 INT. Book has DEs from both side coming at him, and DB cut the route. Would not have hit the WR even if not INT'd
2Q 3:14 Incomplete and grounding call. Book was rolling back with Safety blitzer in his face immediately.
2Q 2:30 Overthown. Not sure what WR as the vid did not capture the routes. Book under 5 man blitz and got drilled by MLB spy
Book did not have another incompletion until
3Q 7:20 Over thrown to Boykin. This on all on Book but was not not far off.
3Q 1:47 Incomplete to Claypool. Claypool turned inside, the ball was outside.

On another note....
1Q 8:01 hit Finke in stride 40 yards in the air

He missed some easy downfield throws and I said this already, it’ll need to get cleaned up but his makeup is unreal. Just like any good player in any sport, it’s on to the next play. He came back and kept doing Ian Book things. He’s a special kid for his clear lack in “tangible” traits.

Rumors are rumors of course, but what gives me pause is that Loy said on the boards they were looking into this. That was 30 minutes ago. If this was completely nothing, this would be cordial one minute phone call.
