Besides Dexter Williams, Greg Bryant(who the whole country thought was overrated) educate me ahhh I think Stepp is gonna be a really good back as well. So he's had two in 8 classes

Good call forgot about him, he never really set the world on fire and tearing his ACL killed him this season. Just not the same player

Ok, I'm talking in BK seven recruiting classes he's really only landed two big time backs. Heck man you could even argue in BK seven years we haven't had a great running back. Sure we've had guys who have had good to great seasons like Prosise, Adams and Riddick for a few games. But we haven't had a back to it all together for two or three seasons. It's embarrassing and something that doesn't get talked about enough. Adams isn't the same player, Folston is a shell of himself and honestly looks slow so why isn't Dexter getting touches?
I'm looking forward to next seasons offense with hopefully Sanford calling plays and seeing a new wave of talent with Wimbush,Dexter, Aliz'e, McKinley, Stepherson, Claypool, TJJR, Kmett and Holmes. Maybe the only thing I'm looking forward too. I'm sick of this inconsistent, stagnant, complicated offense. Dummy down the offfense with simple reads and let our young guys go back plays. We aren't in the NFL where we need to check into the right play and make it for difffcult then it already is. Set the play and go and get up to the line and put the petal to the medal. BK ran this offense and it worked wonders at Cinnci. He won't run it because he thinks defense is what will win well it's not working and you aren't winning so go back to what got you this job in the first place. If you are coming back next year

Lets not forget that recruiting stars/rankings aren't necessarily worth the paper...err...pixels they're displayed on. Some players excel at the college level, unknown to analysts until they see the field. Some 5 star players, who are supposed to be can't miss prospects, never put it all together. More often than not at ND, regardless of the coach, it seems like big RB talents get upstaged by lesser known commodities.
This isn't a comment on Dexter or any other player necessarily, just a general comment. I like Dexter and think he's going to be an awesome back in the coming years.

The biggest problem isn't the lack of incoming talent at RB, every team has guys that just didn't pan out, it's that because of our system, they don't get the proper development.
I mean, look at CJ and Riddick in the NFL (yes it's early) but neither guy was lighting the world on fire at ND, yet both are very good pros.
We don't coach well. It's that simple

Terrible examples. CJ and Theo were phenoms for ND in their final year on the team.
C. Wood, G. Bryant (RIP) are better examples of 5* RB recruits who never panned out at ND.

Nobody would confuse Theo or CJ as top RB's. You're kidding yourself.
Im not slighting them, but they were not premier CFB RB's during their college careers.
Great Irish guys, but I"d say we didn't get half of what we could've outta them during their time here

And considering the success they are having at the next level, I say we missed on getting more outta them.

They didn't come in as top RBs (I think Theo was a 4-star and CJ was a 3-star safety recruit). But they left as big time threats who both had very impressive senior years. Not sure what your point is with them.

Theo had 2,432 yards from scrimmage and 13 total td's.
CJ had 2051 yards from scrimmage and 15 td's.
Those are pretty good numbers.

Yeah, if there ever were success stories for BK in the RB game, it's CJ and Theo. Both benefitted from being receivers for part of their careers. They both were drafted, and it looks like both will be utilized on their respective teams as play makers. Theo has shown to have one of the best sets of hands of any RB in the NFL with the receptions he racks up. It just goes to show that recruiting stars means jack shit sometimes.

Anyone who thinks Riddick wasn't one of the most dynamic and dangerous RBs during the 2012 season, you are drunk and high at the same time. Dude was a you can't hit me machine, and made tacklers look silly.

Also, he split carries with Cierre Wood who had very good back to back seasons at RB. Even when he got suspended for the first four in 2012. That tells you how good Theo was, he earned those carries when Wood went for over a 1000 yards the season before.

No, under Kelly we've never really had a bell cow RB who racked up huge numbers. But that's not really our offense. And TBH I think most of the elite RB recruits we haven't landed knew that. If that's what you want you go to Bama or Wisconsin or someplace like that.
But to say we haven't had good RBs is silly. Riddick and Prosise, as mentioned. I'd say Josh Adams has been pretty good the last year and a half. Cierre Wood was certainly solid. Jonas Gray was very good in 2011.

It's called player development. CJ and Theo both had tremendous senior seasons and that trajectory has translated in the NFL. You have to give credit where it's due and it should be aimed at the ND staff for building these guys into who they became as seniors. They didn't come in as 5* Todd Gurley-type RBs. CJ was recruited to play Safety and Theo was considered a lesser recruit as he came in under 5* Cierre Wood. Yet over time, CJ and Theo became the go-to RB and both produced "big league" and both are now in the NFL.
Lastly, ND doesn't run an offense that highlights a "premier CFB" running back. (Even though at given times last year CJ was getting national recognition, which you don't seem to be acknowledging.) So I'm not sure what you're point even is.
