Yeah, not buying it.

This is his way of creating one more headline within the ND community. His son went the way of Davaris Daniels... Flashed some greatest, but legend never created.... Dad can say what he wants, but he's the one with a son that lacked effort and lost big money because of it.

Perfectly stated.

Someone tweeted at one of the ND guys asking if this was true and he confirmed USC did in fact pass on EQ.

It was one of the ND recruiting guys so I am sure others saw this as well. Maybe I will dig backwards to find it.

I think that was the consensus at the time too.

A question was asked about the rookie receivers, and the answer talked about Moore and Valdes-Scantling, even Kumerow was discussed. What about Equanimeous St. Brown from Notre Dame. How is he looking?

All three of those rookie receivers have done some good things. I think J’Mon Moore has raw tools you like and a good frame. Valdes-Scantling is an absolute burner who can gain separation downfield. St. Brown has a solid build and good underneath quickness. As I said on “Unscripted,” this is the most compelling receiver battle during my seven camps on the beat.

Rumor has it USC prefers WRs who compete for 50/50 balls.

Definitely pulling for EQ to make the roster. I haven't seen any clips in Packers camp of him yet, I've seen a few of Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

It will be interesting to see if his rapport with Kizer is still there in the preseason. Perhaps that could help him make some plays and separate him from the other two rookies.

I’m pulling for him too. Just my perception, but I often wonder how much he truly “loves” the game. He was blessed w/ the size & ability. His parents maximized that w/ their expertise in physical fitness. But is he just trying to collect an easy paycheck for 3-5 years or is he trying to be an elite NFL WR?

I can’t remember if it was someone from the BGI or II podcast, but I recall them questioning whether EQ really loves football or if he just wants to ride out the string before pursuing something else in life.

you have to feel some sympathy for the kid i think. I doubt at any point in his life he would have been able to look at his father and say i don't really want to play football. His whole life has been planned out for him by his father.

Yeah, I get that and have had similar thoughts.

I thought he balled out in 2016. He played great at Texas, ran hard against Syracuse. It's just weird how much he digressed and basically seemed to check out for large chunks of last year. You can't blame it all on Wimbush.

You would hope that getting drafted by GB and having the chance to catch passes from one of the most talented passers of all time will help spark some internal flame, but only time will tell.

ESB is competing for catches now eh

He apparently had quite the night at the family scrimmage this weekend. The other two rookies have made some great plays but have also stood out in poor routes, drops, etc. The difference with ESB is he's catching everything and essentially "blending in" which is what AR likes. I'd be pumped if ESB is the clear #4 heading into the regular season.

]Possible fantasy sleeper[/B]? GB's WR group is weak outside of Adams.

I would say whoever wins the #4 job out of the rookies, which presumably would be J'Mon Moore (Mizzou), Marquez Valdes-Scantling (USF) and ESB, would definitely be a sleeper, especially as the season went along. I wouldn't mind spending a late round draft pick on whoever wins this battle.

Idk if I would say "weak" though. Adams, Cobb, and Jimmy Graham should provide a pretty solid 1,2,3 punch.

Allison has had a big problem with ball security hasn't he? I also recall him being primarily a deep threat whenever Rodgers scrambles.

ESB could cover that role if he consistently shows a willingness to put his body on the line down the field.

Allison has a one-up in terms of special teams, though.

You're the GB fan, though, so I defer to your expertise lol.

Allison has flashed, he has stepped up in certain situations with Cobb struggling with injuries over the past couple of seasons. He has the flexibility to move inside and out. However, you're right, his fumble last year against Carolina thwarted GBs almost miraculous comeback in the final minutes to keep their playoff hopes alive.

From the little I've been able to read on the rookies, it sounds like J'Mon Moore was the early favorite heading into camp, but has been inconsistent. Scantling has freaky athleticism but is extremely raw, and ESB is getting it done on most fronts.

The author did point out his lack of proven 50/50 ball catching prowess though, and ESB hasn't had many situations to prove that he has improved in this realm. I hope they give ESB a shot with #12 and the first team in the preseason at some point.

This is a good point. They have previous chemistry so you'd think he has the upper leg working with the second team.

That QB needs to clean up his mechanics or he'll never stick in the league...

See 5*Phil's thread for more details.

When you're the best QB in the league and have a ring, you can throw any way you want.

Plus, no one said Phil wouldn't start in college or play in the NFL. His release just looks funky and its something we haven't seen at Notre Dame. Thats all.

I thought Zaire had a pretty weird release. Kind of that Tebow-esque looping windup.

I'd rather the compact weird motion that Phil throws with than the looping motion, tbh.

The timing on these two posts could not have been better.

Great adjustment by ESB. Read his QB and made a great adjustment as soon as the ball was thrown. That'st he kind of rapport that gets you a roster spot.

Also love that they are moving him around; this play came from the slot.

Rodgers frustrated with effort from some younger Packers

https://www.yahoo.com/news/rodgers-frustrated-effort-younger-packers-124725067--spt.html

Aaron Rodgers expressed disappointment with the effort from some of the Green Bay Packers' younger players after a frustrating period at practice.

It appears that some of the rookie wideouts are the focus of his displeasure.

Rodgers was running the scout team during one practice session on Tuesday, a sign that he likely won't be playing in the Packers' preseason opener on Thursday against Tennessee.

Younger players who normally may not get many reps with Rodgers got a chance to work more with the two-time NFL MVP.

There is some work to catch up to Rodgers' high standards.

"It was one of the worst cards sessions we've had. I don't know how you can make it any simpler," Rodgers said Tuesday after practice. He was referring to how coaches will hold up an opponent's play during the period.

"You literally have what the play would be in our terminology on the card, and the effort level was very low. Especially with what I'm accustomed to. I've been running that period for a number of years," Rodgers said. "So it's not a good start for us on the card period for the young guys."

Rodgers is usually more diplomatic in front of reporters. He didn't call out any players by name, but he did make sure to single out those he feels are role models, such as veterans Davante Adams, Randall Cobb and Jimmy Graham.

Rodgers liked how Geronimo Allison and DeAngelo Yancey, younger receivers with previous experience with Rodgers, have progressed. He has also gone out of his way to praise the work of Jake Kumerow, a second-year undrafted free agent.

Conversely, the three rookie receivers that the Packers took in this year's draft — J'Mon Moore, Marquez Valdez-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown — may be part of that inconsistent group.

There's a purpose behind Rodgers voicing his frustration. It doesn't have all to do with sending a message to general manager Brian Gutekunst either as the Packers weigh roster decisions.

"No, that's as much for you guys (the media) as it is for that guy, to let him know that I'm watching. I'm always watching — whether I'm in the play or not in the play, when we're going back through the film," Rodgers said.

The quarterback said fatigue may be partly to blame for the subpar play. It is relatively early in camp, when players are still building stamina and getting reacclimated to the routine.

The team is coming off its high-profile Family Night practice on Saturday. They had a day off Sunday before two more days of practice.

"Well, I'm getting older and grumpier. I've been at this for a long time," said Rodgers, who turns 35 in December. "I'm tired too, we're all a little tired. When you get a little tired, the fuse gets a little shorter."

Offensive coordinator Joe Philbin said the hope is that the young receivers learn from their mistakes and correct them as the preseason progresses.

"Certainly Aaron, his comments, his example, his leadership has a profound effect on the ballclub, the offense in particular and the whole team in general," Philbin said. "His words are meaningful."
