Someone said grant is his own worst enemy, he didn't make the trip to Pitt so maybe he was just having a crappy night trying to find chicks in south bend?

Man if he is gone, we lose guys at an epic rate. I don't see other schools lose tranfers like us.

Johnny Williams, K. Hill, Eddie Vanderdoes, Lynch, Bryant, EG, Hegarty, Bo Wallace, Neal, Kiel, Nile Sykes, Ferguson, Sheppard, I think I am missing a couple. But, that is a lot of 4 and 5 star type talent. 4 5 stars (or a super high 4 star) who else loses that many? Some for very good reasons, but talent transferring none the less. I just don't see other schools losing 5 stars to transfer. I hope it doesn't continue.

Rumored/Possibilities:

Grant, Hayes two other high end talent have now have social media their feelings.

Just like the rumors when Lynch did. Where there is smoke.

I just don't hope the trend continues.

I know crazy. If we really look at it, we have had a ton of transfers. I wish it wasn't so. That is how we can offer these walk-ons scholarships (the running back this year, Van Gorders kid, etc.

And yet, we are 8-1 and ranked #5 in the CFP Poll.

Are we sure our coaches are good coaches?

Kmoose, very true. We are in great shape. But, the transfer issue is still and issue.

Love the school none the less.

This list is over a five year time frame. Even if you get that number to 15 over that time, that's only three a year on average. I would guess a lot of teams have that many transfers a year. Transfers are a constant in cfb. Add in having to actually go to school and it makes sense that ND has this kind of attrition. I doubt our number of transfers really say much about ND specifically, more about cfb in general.

Not to mention Vanderdoes was never on campus, I never include him in that class.

We've had a discussion on this, and can't recall which thread, but I think this is a misconception, unless the rules have changed or I was misinformed. I had a friend that played DI, and played in his first 4 games as a freshman. We went to party one night and he told us that he was going to redshirt after all. He said that as long as it's the first four games and you play a certain % of snaps, you can still get the redshirt.

It's also completely possible that he misunderstood and that the coaches were going to give him a *medical* redshirt after the fact.

Also, I think I've shared this story before, so I apologize to others who might view it as redundant.

NDRock is correct.

One play burns a year of eligibility.

Shepard NEVER passed the NCAA Clearinghouse so he was Ineligible to receive a Div 1 scholarship. He had transcript issues. He was not a transfer. Took two years to get into Juco.

Hegarty left after he received an ND degree. He left under the graduate waiver rule as quite a few others have done. And he left because he couldn't crack the two deep and was asked to switch positions. He refused.

Vanderdoes never enrolled in school. ND let him out of his LOI due to Grandma.

Bo Wallace, a 3 star, never enrolled. Can't be a transfer when he never enrolled.

Ferguson after seeing little action at ND transferred to Western Michigan and became a Safety.

Golson had two issues with academic eligibility (to be charitable) then lost his job to underclass men. He transferred with a degree aka Hegarty and recently lost his job at FSU.

Bryant was academically ineligible for failure to get acceptable grades in the summer session. He enrolled in a prep school and will next play football in 2017 under the UAB waiver.

Kiel is at his 4th commitment. Les Miles categorized his disdain for competition correctly. If Kiel was still at ND he would not be starting over Kizer or Zaire.

Didn't Neal have a issue with Res Life?

Hill was a 3 Star buried on the depth chart.

Sykes was a 3 star who went to IU and was redshirted as a freshman.

Johnny Williams, yet another 3 star, transferred according to him because of family issues (mother).

All I'll say in regards to this matter is that it is tough for a young kid to be away from home and last year he had football to cope with it due to the fact that he was playing. Since last year, he's had a spring semester that was probably pretty tough, which most are when you don't have something to fall back on like football and now he's not playing so my guess is that frustration is mounting and when you add the fact that he's not at some chump school, he actually has to go to class and bust his butt to be successful, it may be turning into more than he signed up for?

Totally could be wrong just throwing my 2 cents

I bet you would be surprised then what occurs at other big time cfb teams regarding transfers ... you don't see the buzz without following their particular web sites.

Exactly, happens everywhere. We've really been pretty stable the last few years all things considered.

It looked like he was the guy that watched the ball on the ground when the QB fumbled. Kelly was pissed and took him right out of the game.

Not like he was doing anything anyway.

I saw this and I couldnt believe it. Who doesnt take his opportunity to shine and actually...make...effort?

Terrible reaction. He was on the sidelines explaining to Kelly that he thought it was an incomplete pass because the QB's arm was coming forward. A player should ALWAYS jump on a loose ball. Let the refs decide if it is a fumble or incomplete pass. NEVER stop playing and let the ball roll on the ground.

This may have been a big step in Grant growing up.

Reps, NDFI78, Sheldon Day and someone else did the same sort of thing in the '13 Pitt game which we lost, except they were busy doing a temper tantrum or a dance or something. Wait didn't SD actually kick the ball?

So that is something Kelly can get over. I am sure Kelly was asking him why he didn't fall on the ball, or scoop it up. And he responded that he was just a stupid sophomore who thought his motives actually mattered.

They were both smiling from the NBC sideline shot, so I imagine Kelly used the teaching time to point out the irony of Grant having the opportunity to influence his play time and not grabbing it, and Grant saw that he indeed was his own worst enemy, in his battle to see more playing time.

The final smile was Kelly, I wonder if he was thinking back to the quadrillion times he has seen this with college youngsters in his past twenty-five years as a head coach.

Yep, it was a bonehead play and nothing more. Glad to see Grant, Trumbetti, and Bonner get some reps. Overall did a great job. Gonna need all those guys down the stretch.

At the time it was hard to take, glad it wasn't a factor in the outcome.
Hopefully a learning situation for all. Yes, need these younger guys to get reps and be able to come in and make plays, a la Trumbetti.

Bakich 2.0

?

Blankenship got pulled for doing nothing when he should have done something. Error of Omission ... Jump on the ball.

Bakich got pulled for doing something when he should have done nothing. Error of Commission ... Got in a fight drawing a flag.

Bakich was also a Parade AA, USA TODAY AA, Texas POY. A much more talented, highly ranked prospect that didn't come through in Div 1 and then had career ending injuries. Fortunately he had an ND degree to take him through life.
