Okay, not saying dad is wrong, but I checked things out on ISD, and there's nothing about Watkins having surgery. Matt responded stating that his source was monitoring Watkins for most of the day and he didn't have surgery.

Maybe wrong, but they were very quick to report MDT's injury, so I'd expect they'd be quick to drop the bomb about Watkins.

Well...if there is nothing going on, why was his source "monitoring Watkins most of the day"?

Didn't say, but if I had to guess, he was probably watching the defensive backs in general and saw #7 out there. Again, not calling you out or anything, I asked the question over on TOS and got bupkus. Perhaps we'll find out for sure tomorrow.

Matt didn't say someone was "monitoring Watkins for most of the day." I don't know where NDSean is getting that or why he is changing Matt's words, but what Matt really said is that Watkins didn't have surgery according to a source that was "WITH him for SOME of the day."

Really think we should be more than fine with White and Coleman. I'm very high on Coleman, and some people think White is a "gamer"... so we're still 4 deep right now at what should be good CBs without even touching the frosh.

I agree, it was still up in the air whether Watkins was going to start or not. Or which group of CB's was going to be the "first group".

With that said, I really wanted to see what he could do with more reps. I thought he played pretty good against OSU, for his first big time action really.

I wasn't "changing Matt's words", or at least not meaning to.

I meant to say he was with him, but interpreted as he was basically watching him/probably watching the DB's practicing. Matt didn't exactly go into much detail, understandably so.

That being said, point stands, if he was practicing, can't imagine he went through surgery the same day.

I'm pretty sure practice wasn't open to the media today. That's why the only video is comin from UND.com

That's true, which is why Matt wasn't there, but he, like most ND analysts, have sources on the inside.

Again, he wasn't there, so his source is all we have, but if he trusts that source and Watkins was out there, can't imagine he got surgery on the same day he was out practicing. Again, probably find out tomorrow. There's really not much either or at this point.

Not that I really care but didn't you just say he watched him at practice? I don't have ISD but it seems like you're just chasing your tail at this point.

I said his source, not him, which is why I'm not saying it's one or the other, just that we should wait and see. I just don't want us to start going into full-on panic mode until we have confirmation that Watkins is indeed out of commission.

I sure hope Nick heals fast. Why is it, we get the injury bug every single year to potential key starters/back ups? Just gets so frustrating year after year, when we have to deal with guys that are having problems academically and we have guys that get hurt. Seems like every year we have this same problem. I love our team!!!!!! Just think we always have the same issues preventing us from greatness.

dad4aa has never been a troll, his info has always been solid.

Thanks Insanity. I was just trying to let people know what I heard since it seemed important with all the injuries we've had the past few years. Nick posted on his snapchat story last night "surgery day" with a picture of him in a sling. Not sure what else that could mean. But hey, Balki's source said he was at practice so maybe Nick is trolling us.

Dude, you took Matt's words of "he was with him for some of the day" and told everyone here that Matt said his source was "monitoring him for most of the day", completely changing Matt's words and basically the info he stated. If you ask a reporter a question, and he is nice enough to answer, you probably shouldn't go to another website and completely misconstrue his words, that's all.

I think you all are over estimating the corner depth now that Butler and Watkins are both down. Sure there is Coleman, White and the freshman, but they are all untested.

Butler is no loss at all.

I'm on the Donte Vaughn bandwagon

Agreed. Hopefully a frosh can give us a KVR freshman-type season because we are going to need at least a couple to take minutes. Most expect Studstill to log minutes, sounds like DVaughn is playing himself into some minutes.

Have we heard anything on Pride or Elliot? I know they were carrying some high praise after signing day.

We have Pride, Vaughn, Elliott, Love, Spencer, Studstill and Morgan. So far, I've only heard Studstill and Vaughn as standouts.

Has anyone else heard anything?

I would argue the sky isn't falling either. Cole Luke is an absolute stud. Coleman played limited amounts in games and has been in the system for over a year. Crawford might not be experienced, but he is also only spelling the other two and playing nickel. Which by the way, reports have him being excellent in practice at.

It's not great, but that is a talented 1st group there with a lot to be excited about. It's also one that is one injury away from being pretty scary. Plus, do any of us even know if the Watkins surgery ends his season? We could get him back, right?

I would argue while Butler has been tested, and the results have not been great.

Watkins would be a big blow though.

I would think so if its arm surgery?

Scary corner depth is 2012. This is nothing! We have 2 great starters, a freshman who was good enough to get playing time last year, a quality 4th option (White), and 2 solid freshmen with lots of athletic potential.

That is what depth is for, injuries happen!

4 days into CAMP. Freaking camp, Padless up until yesterday, mind you, and we've lost our All American TE, rotational DT, and potentially starting corner.

The sky may not be falling but it's bending heavily. The ND curse is real.

All American according to who?

He has a lot of potential but, cmon man, 13 catches and no TDs last year.

If by curse you mean a sub-par S&C program and outdated training facilities, then yes, we're cursed.

Maybe after a few more years of hand wringing with our overbearing administration, we'll get some equiment that would be out of date by today's standards

All American or not (wasn't he freshman aa?), he was going to catch 45 balls this year and be a big part of our offense. We have tes that can catch the ball, but not ones that can get open (this according to 2 nd podcasts who've been at fall practice).

I'm doing nothing but complaining about the curse, but the people that say we're fine are the same people who will call it a great year when we go 10-3 in 2016. That's not a great year to me.
