That lobbed INT to no one that set up Duke's game-winning FG was the single worst pass of his career.

He's a good QB. It's pretty clear he feels the need to hit a big play on every possession. The complete incompetence of the defense is starting to have a ripple effect in my opinion.

I don't get this, it was third and long, the chance of getting the first down isn't very high. The pass was about 40 yards down the field, effectively a punt, so what is the big deal?

It was 3rd and long from our own 3 yard line. The only thing that would have changed was that Newsome would have had to come out and punt from his own end zone. Maybe Duke gets the ball at midfield there instead of the 40 yard line. Big deal. It just would have taken them longer to score and would have kicked the FG at the gun.

The kid is under pressure to be perfect because the D is so fucking awful. Just trying to make a play. If that was 1st or 2nd down than that would have been bad, but 3rd and long? Nah.

This makes sense. Thanks for the perspective.

Didn't get to catch the game, does anyone think MZ may get a shot? I don't think DK is the problem

No, he is toast on the season. MZ will only barely see garbage time, so likely never see the field all season.

I don't think Zaire gets a shot unfortunately, and either way DK isn't necessarily the problem. The problem is our offense. We're putting TOO much on Kizer's shoulders because our running game doesn't work. This seems to happen in Kelly's offense. It can make a QB a Heisman contender, but you ask too much of our QB for 4 quarters. Every season it sets up our QB for a game where he struggles, and as a result the offense becomes inconsistent or stagnant.

We need to get the running game going to keep defenses off balance. Yeah, Kizer can get some yards on draws and occasional options, but we're completely inconsistent and struggling to get anything but 3-4 yard gains. We're not gashing anyone, even a team like Duke or Texas. We're one dimensional here. We need to find our running game. Kelly did say we could go to Wimbush this year though.

Going to Wimbush wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Just seems we lost a lot of NFL talent last summer and all of a sudden the coaching staff forgot how to win. Maybe the wins were in spite of the coaches and recruiting isn't to the level it was before... Hate to see it.

On topic I feel like DK definitely has the tools but as ulukinatme said needs to get put in better position. Sigh

I've been saying ALL season. Stop pushing this kid to the NFL.

He's not fucking ready, and deserves time to really develop his talent.

Kelly was pathetic in his press conference comments about him though.

Kizer is an immense talent, and IS our starting quarterback. We are fortunate to have him.

Criticizing DK for this loss is totally misplaced. He didn't have a great game but 35 points should be way more than enough against Duke. Plus how many times can you expect the kid to play light out ice in his veins heisman level play? You shouldn't be expecting him to have to win you a shootout every single game of the season. MZ or Wimbush playing would have done nothing to change the outcome of the game today as long as we are trotting out that putrid defense.

Wait. People are upset with DK?

The dude has been asked to do everything... Back off.

Seriously. I think a lot of people are just looking to complain about anything now and individual players are being looked at. I think today demonstrates that the issues with this team go far beyond any individual players on the field right now. Whether changes to the DC or just a wholesale coaching change needs to be made is a legitimate debate, but the poor play or lack of playing time for any individual player is so far down the list of issues right now. Teams with the talent that Notre Dame has do not have seasons like this without significant coaching issues.

Exactly.
DK did not give up 500 yards to one of the worst offenses in college football.
DK did not give up a kick return for a TD after leading us to a 14-0 lead.
DK did not fumble the ball fighting for extra yards.
Yes he did throw a pick but it was 40 yards down field on a third and 20 from our own end zone. Like others said, much like a punt.
Yes he did have some bad passes but still accounted for 440 yards and 3 TDs.

DK IS DEFINITELY NOT THE PROBLEM!

no he doesn't know how to play QB, we win against texas if he called in sick

Uhh no. That's the same QB that absolutely destroyed Texas last year. He played well enough in camp to earn a shot as the starter. The fact our running game sucks this year, and we repeatedly ran into the teeth of the Texas offense, doesn't mean Zaire's 3 series are why we lost that game. We still scored enough to win that game, the defense is the #1 reason we're losing these games.

Would have scored more if he wasn't on the field doing nothing

Again, Zaire played well in camp and destroyed that Texas game last year. Hindsight is 20/20 and all that, but it's not Zaire's fault our running game blows this year. Our offensive play calling was pretty lame when Zaire was in for those 3 series, regardless if Zaire should/could have checked out of the plays. We knew Texas was lining up to stop the run when he was in, and we continued to call plays that ran into the teeth of that defense. That's on the OC as much as it is Zaire for not calling an audible.

How dare Kelly blame Kizer. What a POS. Kizer should refuse to play, seeing as he has to carry the entire team on his shoulders and be perfect in order for us to win.

He will Throw Kiser under the bus but not his worthless defensive coordinator. I am ready for him to be gone.

Kizer is carrying the weight of the university.

I think Kelly is losing the fan base with these statements as he already has lost the team.

What kind of idiot could watch the first four games of the season and come to the conclusion that the QB position is our problem? I feel like he must be trolling us.

Yep. The whole offense is pressing because of the defense. I wish the players could just let it fly out there, stop thinking and have fun. It's a game, not life or death.
