Watch his Junior Film and then watch his Senior Film. Then you have your answer as to why he was offered now, and why they offered.

I think the competition got worse from his junior to senior year.

However, there is no denying his athletic ability.

In terms of explosion off the snap, athletic ability, it looks like a case of he figured out his body and putting it all together.

Kid definitely looks athletic, and I would love to have a kid near my hometown get a chance to play for the Irish, but I hope his offer isn't actionable quite yet.

I CANNOT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH HOW BAD HIS COMPETITION IS.

We're talking about teams with kids that have never played football. 5'7" middle linebackers and typically reeeeallly bad coaching. This kid may end up being a really good player, but he would get to campus with an extremely low football IQ, non existent technique and have to adjust to playing other talented kids. Right now, he is a rare athlete that is playing against kids that should never step on a field with an athlete of his caliber.

I'm serious...

Don't like the offer. Staff is swining everywhere right now. But let's not offer Sam Hubbard?

Am I missing something, they are throwing Line offers to see what sticks... Hubbard was a saftey/LB prospect correct??

It's pretty crazy that the staff literally has had no contact and then bam, offer. His friends are pretty excited judging from his Twitter, let's see if this materializes... Tom V from ESPN made it sound like he was getting looks from some other bigger programs as well.

I grew up in the town next to Berrien Springs (the better town) and can assure you that his competition (and own team for that matter) is bottom of the barrel. Most, if not all, of the teams in their division don't even have cuts or tryouts. These are small, rural towns in SW Michigan.

Cowtippers.

Where did you go to high? Niles? Dowagiac? I went to Lawton. Oh and you are correct with he talent being pretty crap!

Per Wiltfong it seems as though the offer came as a shock to Williams. When asked if he would check out ND and if being close to home was important, he said he wasn't sure to both. He has yet to talk with an ND coach or staff member. Also said that he hasn't had time to let it sync in yet.

So how did he get the offer, letter in the mail?

Went to Buchanan, but lived in Niles. So I had Berrien Springs surrounded.

Lawton is a nice little town.

We may have tipped the same cows at some point. :headbang:

According to II, he was offered by Michigan or they were at least close to offering and he said that he wasn't interested.

Mizzou coaches visiting him today, probably trying to quell the flames

What I find interesting is that Mizzou, despite having 27 commits, immediately got on a plane to talk to him after the ND offer.

Don't know what that says... but it says something.

I think it says he is one of their primary recruits they don't want to lose.

Mizzou apparently learns quickly. They join the $EC and have 27 commits in mid November. From the department of "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em".

From SkunkBear 247

Jhonny Williams: I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Michigan has offered him by the time I post this. The 2014 DE out of Berrien Springs (MI) was offered by Notre Dame the other night and is currently committed to Missouri. They can get him on campus with an offer. I wouldn't be surprised to see him at the Ohio State game in a few weeks

According to rivals he already told Michigan, no thanks.

Mizzou has just one 4 star recruit, Andy Bauer who they picked up last week, they are definitely going quantity over quality

So the timing of our offer was a hedge against the possibility that UM would probably offer if they didn't get Hand?
