Drue is just a football player.. He doesn't have elite speed or size but kid can make plays when healthy.. I expect him to thrive in this defense and have a very nice year

After finally seeing the new defense, I am excited for Drue. He will flourish and will be great Coney next year.

I was camping so i didn't get to actually watch the game. Only half through the first quarter and this dude is out there making plays.

He had some really impressive individual plays. Blowing up Blazevich on the screen pass, and making the tackle was one of the top plays of the night

I've completely forgot but does Drue have a 5th year? I'm assuming his injury a couple of years ago warranted in medical redshirt.

His injury in '15 was 3rd game of the season so I think he qualifies for a 5th. Don't remember his '14 usage.

Yes, his soph year qualifies for a redshirt so he'll be back unless he decides to go to the NFL.

Tranquill is a Quarter finalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy
Lott IMPACT Trophy Names 2017 Quarter-Finalists | Lott IMPACT Trophy | Honoring College Football's Defensive Best

The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, sponsors of the Lott IMPACT Trophy, today announced the quarter-finalists for the 14th annual award.

The 20 players represent the best college defensive players in the nation who make the biggest IMPACT on their team both on and off the field. IMPACT is an acronym for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.

Named after College and Pro Football Hall of Fame member, Ronnie Lott, The Lott IMPACT Trophy was founded in 2004. It is the first and only college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player. The Lott Trophy is given to the player who exhibits the same characteristics Lott embodied during his distinguished career. There are nine linebackers on the list, six defensive linemen and five defensive backs. Virginia and Penn State are the only schools with two players represented.

Semi-finalists will be announced Nov. 8 and four finalists will be announced Nov. 28. The finalists will attend the Lott IMPACT Trophy Awards Banquet Dec. 10 at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach where the winner will be announced by Ronnie Lott. Each of the schools of the finalists will receive $5,000 for their general scholarship fund while the school of the winner will receive $25,000.

Voters for the award include selected members of the national media, previous finalists, the Board of Directors of the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation and a distinguished group of former college football head coaches. To date, the Foundation has donated more than $1.4 million to various charities throughout the country. For more information on The Lott Trophy visit: Lott IMPACT Trophy.

Drue is my favorite player. I love the leader that he is. While I would love to see him return, he needs to leave now if he has dreams of playing in the NFL. His stock will not be any higher than it is right now. He's been getting consistent high praise throughout the season. He can only hurt his chances if he stays.

If he is drafted. the consensus is it won't be until the later rounds. I saw at least one draft profile that was pegging him between rounds 5 - 7.

I have to pick this apart a bit.

He doesn't NEED to leave. His stock COULD be higher next year. It isn't certain he'd hurt his chances by returning. There's no way to say where he goes in the draft with huge national games he could be playing (and starring) in during the next 60 days in front of him and an NFL Draft Combine where he could become a flavor of the year candidate.

What's true is: He's been hurt twice, he's could very well be near his peak value and physical condition at the moment, coming back opens up the possibility of injury, he's graduating.

If he beats Miami I'm fine with him leaving. Otherwise lock him in the gug.

Isnt he getting a Mechanical Eng degree? This is insane.

It really is. He must be brilliant and have crazy work ethic to attend practices and still graduate early in any engineering field.

Would be more impressive if were an electrical engineer but not all are chosen ;)

I worked full time and took mine ( lowly civil guy here) at night and it took me just under 5 years to finish. That was with taking every semester I could.

Love it.

Predicting those rounds is a real crap shoot though, especially before people know who is leaving versus staying, combing over the smaller schools, etc.

Then you need to consider what are you really risking by staying / going? On the staying side, you risk your current projected draft slot. Taking the mid-point of the range you noted, the guaranteed portion of players drafted in April ranged from $110K to $180k. This usually the extent of their guaranteed money. The average contract has an average annual payout of ~$600k (actual cash received, not cap hit) if on the roster during the season.

Each team has a singing bonus pool of ~$100k to offer UDFA's. However, guaranteed money in contracts signed is not restricted. But typically speaking, most earn a modest signing bonus of $10-$15k. If they make the roster, they get a 4 year contract, with an average payout of ~$575k per year, if on the roster.

The key is actually making the roster and staying there. So the question would be does getting drafted in round 6 statistically meaningful w/r/t to expected career length? 538 looked at career length by round (https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/its-hard-to-tell-how-good-nfl-teams-are-at-the-draft/ ), but the problem was that the data stretched back to 1990 and the average career length is getting shorter and shorter. Even then, there was at most 1 year of difference historically, so probably less so today.

IMO, getting drafted or not isn't going to make or break his NFL career. Being healthy would be. Even then, getting hurt during training camp would prevent reaching his dream and his financial gain would also be limited. It's a crap shoot either way, so go for your dreams, whatever they may be.

Also deserving of kudos. Working full time and getting an engineering degree is not for the timid or the weak.
