Multiple knee injuries, played best year of his career, and has a degree in mechanical engineering. Of course he's leaving, that's been a forgone conclusion... unless he has a crazy change of heart and wants to play for free for another year for fun or something stupid. Unlike Tillery, it objectively makes sense for him to leave.

Am I right in saying we are better off on the DL than we have been for the last few years and so we can cope with his departure.

If he's leaving to pursue a chance at the NFL, it's the wrong decision IMO. If he's leaving to go make money in the real world, I'd hate to lose him, but respect the decision.

Why do you think it's the wrong decision if he is leaving to take a shot at the NFL?

Drue has a ton of heart and played great this year. At the next level I don’t see him more than a special teams guy.

For the reasons outlined above by Lax, his draft stock isn't likely to get any higher than it is now. If he wants to take a swing at the NFL, this is his shot.

Drue is a better prospect than any of the Bears current ILB depth chart players were except Nick Kwiatkowski. He's a better athlete than Nick K, is longer and can eventually carry as much weight. When Drue is 6-2, 245lbs, people will be like.... Wuh?

I agree. I think he's going to have a good pro career. Gonna miss him here at ND.

He's got a safety body, but he lacks NFL safety speed. Not sure he can put on the weight to play LB like NDC thinks, but if he can it may slow him down. JMO

I will also say that if he goes, I hope he proves me wrong.

Is Coney at least coming back or are we going to talk him into leaving too and have to rebuild the entire LB corps?

I selfishly wanted Drue back on next year's team. They will surely miss him. The LBs are taking a huge attrition hit this year. But with that said, best of luck to Drue. I don't blame him one bit. He has a degree. He has some history with injuries. He's coming off a good season. He's getting married. Go get paid, bro! Make the money while you can and set your future family up for life.

That's massive.

Now we need Tillery to come back for his last year too. Come on big man.

That's pretty nuts. Going to return almost all defensive starters if Tillery comes back.

Do we really want Drue back though? I am sure he is taking valuable reps away from a much more talented underclassman.

I mean he is averaging 10 tackles a game but I want guy that dominates every game and i bet he is on the bench right now cuz BK sucks at coaching.

How do you feel about wooden spoons? No, don't tell me, I have my own opinions and yours can't be as good as mine.
