Don't discount Auburn on this one. They have been in the background making up some ground with him. Hope he chooses my Tide... he is tailor-made to be the big, physical ILB that Kirby loves. His speed in a concern but everything else looks great. Come on down to T Town Raekwon.

Trust me, I despise OSU as much as most.

With that said, there is no way I wanted this kid at either Bama or Clemson. Auburn would have been my choice, but I will take OSU.

To me, I want to continue the push towards parity at the top of the food chain. As long as Urbie is going to be at OSU, they will continue to win 10-12 games per year. Having this kid there or not will not change that. But, if OSU takes one recruit from Bama, ND takes one and Kentucky takes one, that means there is greater likelihood of more churn at the top. Churn is ultimately what I want and what I think is best for the game.

he'll be the best linebacker on the roster the moment he steps on to campus.

great chance to start right away for a team that will probably be a preseason top 5

O$U's LB haul is unreal:

McMillan :s::s::s::s::s:
Booker :s::s::s::s:
Hubbard :s::s::s::s:
Berger :s::s::s::s:

Man, unreal is just the word. Wow.

Booker was one of my favorite LB recruits in this class. So sad that Urbie won out for him, but some Ohio guys are just destined for OSU. To have him and McMillan and ... ugh I'll just stop.

Meanwhile Nick has the #1 recruiting class again.

Would have been a great pickup for my Tide, but we have two more ILB coming in and a stable of guys already there. But, admittingly, I would have loved to have Raekwon. Hope the best for him at OSU.

That is my point. He is more or a less a luxury to have for Bama while he can be a difference maker somewhere else.

Bama is going to recruit at the highest level and they should considering their run. Dynasties eventually run their course and if a 5* going to OSU helps move that needle ever so slightly, then I am all for it.

2014 is the critical year IMO. Bama needs to stay undefeated for most of the season and keep that buzz they're used to having, maybe even play for the title, because the cracks have begun to show. If they can weather the QB transition and be firmly in the title hunt for most all of the year they'll be able to sustain, but 2 losses before their bowl game would be the end. A 2-loss season for Bama, as great as that would be for most of the nation, looks like a program in decline, and perception becomes reality.

I hear ya. But it's still fun trying to stack the house. Maybe we will get lucky and see Urban and co next year in the title game. Nothing better than hanging half a hundred on old friends.

I hope he hears his heart's call to the Ohio State Drama Club and sacrifices his life to the theater. I want nothing good to happen to Meyer.

Are you serious? They have lost one game this season. Dont take this personally but winning 10+ games is still a very good season. The expectation that a team or program should win the title every year is a little ridiculous.

The look on his face during the MSU game made me forget about 8-4!!!

I'm dead serious. You're also completely right: the reason it's so hard to sustain a dynasty is that a one-loss season becomes disappointing, which is preposterous if you ask me. It's just so hard to maintain the 'buzz' around your program and the edge in your preparations when you've been that good for that long, to say nothing of failing to notice the landscape of CFB (schematically) change around you. It takes an entirely different level of recruiting, coaching, etc. to stay on top for consecutive years than it does to get there once- When you're on top there's nowhere to go but down.

They are the worst fans in college football. They make Bama fans look like St. Francis of Assisi.

Turn it off knucklehead! :)

The key to Bama next year is the play of AJ's replacement.

The playoff system will certainly help their access, but I don't think it bodes well for Alabama, or anyone else for that matter, winning back-to-back championships. It's incredibly hard to beat two teams of that caliber in a season period, much less in the space of a week or two. The necessity of preparing for 2 opponents would also put a significant dent in Bama's very real advantage after time off.

More specific to Bama, for the past 2 or 3 years Bama's played pretty badly coming off big games (especially LSU). You can get away with that when it's Mississippi State, but against a playoff-caliber team, you're not gonna dig out of that kinda hole (a la A&M 2012). Simply put, Alabama hasn't had a "trap game" on their schedule in recent memory, and the only stretch of two "real games" in a row they've had under Saban they ended up losing the 2nd game (LSU-aTm 2012). Bama has optimized their scheduling approach given the way the current system works, but it isn't conducive to success in the playoff, IMO.
