Mahone was a very good player. A consensus four star prospect and a lot of people thought he was the best RB in Ohio (ahead of Brionte Dunn, Warren Ball among others). I am not saying he was better than Starks but i do not think that Starks is "still a much better prospect"

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Yours just happens to be wrong. No biggie.

Not sure what to tell ya but I feel very confident saying that the staff isn't still recruiting Starks because they think he could be the next Will Mahone. They view Starks as a difference maker and if they didn't they wouldn't be recruiting him. From everything thats out there, we are only bringing in a difference maker at RB this cycle. Sorry, but Mahone was never a difference maker.

I think they view Starks as an option because 1) The decommit of Elijah Hood. 2) He should be the most interested in ND given that we have a fully depth chart at the position. I'm sure that the staff were higher with Hood, Michel and now in Scarbough or players like Fournette, Hurd, Yearby or Cook if they were interested in ND.

I am not saying that Mahone was a difference maker or a super star in the making or even that he was better than Starks (because i do not know that), but the reality is that he was a quality prospect with a lot of upside.

ESPN:

It's a good year for backs in Ohio and Mahone may emerge as the best before it's all said and done. He combines good speed and size and can move the chains inside or out. Has feature back written all over him at the college level.

Scout:

Some may question his timed speed, but his game speed is there and he may end up as the top back in the state. He's closer to that title than many think. I really believe he'll be a top flight college back. He's compact, can run inside and outside, and regardless of what he times at, has shown he can break long runs as well as be an effective return man

A lot of 'mays' in those quotes European Domer. It looks like they did not turn out positively.

They we prepared to accept Starks commitment since last summer when he visited. In fact the idea that they would take Starks and Hood in a testament to how highly they view both prospects, as in must take. Mahone was not a bad prospect, nobody is saying that, but the two aren't in the same conversation coming out of HS. If you do believe they are, thats your opinion, I just don't think many share that opinion.

This. I love Mahone. He reminded me of a smaller Leveon Bell coming out of high school. But I think Starks is the better prospect for us by a sizable margin.

No offense to the poster but this statement is laughable. Nathan is electric against very good competition. Not necessarily saying we should take him but he is a serious talent.

No offense taken at all ...just my humble opinion.

Back to Starks....

Two guys that had ND predictions, including Loy, just swapped to Oklahoma.

Welp. Got to say that's probably a bad indication on the "is he a take?" front. What a shame, but pretty expected at this point. It also could be that with the new crystal ball they're just trying to update and be more accurate.

I guess they have a new Crystal Ball feature where you can set your prediction to "foggy." Wiltfong just did so for Starks.

Is there any indication of where Starks is leaning? Assuming ND and OU would both accept his verbal commitment, so we know which way he is leaning?

He's a non-take for ND right now, whereas I think he is a take for Oklahoma, and I think he is leaning towards the Sooners.

I get that, I'm just wondering about a scenario in which he was a take for both schools. Would OU still be the team to beat?

IF he were a take for both schools, and it were to happen sooner rather than later, I think ND would be the school to beat. The longer this drags out the more likely it is that he just commits to OU before ND gets in the picture seriously though.

Yup. There always seems to be so many "what ifs" with Notre Dame recruiting. If he never gets kicked out of school, he commits to ND months ago and is a top 50 prospect.

I tried to ask Loy on the BGI board why he changed his Crystal Ball pick ... no response as yet. I wonder if he'll clarify in Tunnel Vision today.

Don't know if those are the schools he's considering or what... but quite the hodgepodge. And no, Duke does not have the same standards as ND/Stanford/etc. and is open to JUCOs/whoever, so if that's a school he's considering don't take that as any indication of him being a take for ND.

While I agree that Duke probably has lower standards than ND/Stanford (for that matter ND has lower standards for FB players than Stanford) but Duke rarely takes Juco's (I don't remember the last Juco player that they signed) and still has rather high standards.
