Some impressions from the game:
-Continue to think Mingo is overrated. Montgomery is legit, though. LSU looked very fast on D.
-Dunno how much it came through on the TV, but LSU backed way off on their coverages in that last drive. Abandoned the tight defense that had been giving McCarron fits.
-Fairly subdued crowd by Death Valley standards. Picked up late, but this was no where near the atmosphere I've seen up here before. Didn't even give much crap to the Bama fan I was with. Just a weird vibe. Fan base still seems shell shocked from the national championship game.
-A&M and UGA could both give Bama a real game. Bama's secondary is not on par with the rest of their D. Kind of weird, since Saban made his bones as a DB coach and still coaches the DBs at Bama.
-The Lesticles charade is growing old. The fake FG, the onsides kick, the 50+ yarder, poorly-coached players (why are you running 15 yards to the sideline when you could go forward two to get the first and stop the clock?), run-run-pass-punt, etc. Continue to think he's a bad coach who gets away with it because he's an excellent recruiter in a plumb position. At least he seems to have realized that the forward pass is now legal.
-That said, if Mettenberger can keep playing like he did tonight, LSU is gonna be scary good next season. Defensive end is their only glaring hole. Losing Reid (probably) will hurt, too, but they've recruited well there and the back-ups have some experience.
