This... But I'm still worried if any NC St fans heard Denbrock stop just short of spilling the beans. That renders MZ useless. Can't believe he showed flashed his hand...

I mean he could just have easily said that to get NC St. to waste time preparing for it. It literally means nothing and if I was NC St. I would not base a single thing I did off of what he said on a radio program.

Edit: Didn't realize this was sarcasm.

Do you honestly think that NC St was not going to have a defensive package in place in case Zaire played, until they maybe heard Denbrock say something about it?

Thank you VDP. Crystal didn't have italics so I didn't use them either.

No italics. Heard the interview. When asked, he made the comment he won't let that info come out due to the fact fans and coaches may be listening. Then went on to say nothing is off the table. Personally I would have said Kizer is our guy and the ball is in his hands and let it go at that. May have been a way to make them over prepare for our offense. Who knows.

Or........he wanted to make sure NCST had to prepare for both QBs as opposed to just Kizer.

Frankly, based upon what he was quoted as saying, I think he made it fairly obvious he was just trying to screw with NC State and their game prep.

Why would you come out and say that you can't say anything because coaches could be listening and then in the next breath say nothing is off the table.

Maybe Denbrock made it super obvious intentionally because he's using double reverse psychology.

If there was ever a right time to play MZ, it was today. If I'm MZ, on the first train out of SB after I take that last exam.

I really didn't understand why we waited till 4 minutes to go before putting Zaire in. We couldn't pass all day, this would have been the best time to actually use Zaire and the running game to pound it. Line up with 2 TEs and slog it, Zaire will fall forward. We bring him in with 4 minutes left to play, he hasn't been on the field all day to experience the conditions, so he understandably slips and then promptly gets sent to the sideline. It was nice to see him try and pump the offense up prior to taking the field at least...and at the very worst by slipping he was no less effective than what we had been doing on offense with the incompletions. Should have seen him at the start of the 2nd half, much like how NC St. switched their QB.

Pretty sure Zaire just went in for that one play because Kizer was banged up (DK was shown getting his hand checked out on the sideline). They didn't take Zaire out because he slipped, but because Kizer was ready to go back in.
That said, I agree they could/should have made better use of him today. Folston, too. This was a game made for power runners.

Folston's been recovering from a foot injury. He was listed as probable pre-game. Considering the footing why play him in the slop to get an re-injury?

Kizer had an elbow stinger. I thought he may have broke a bone when they replayed the shot he took when he did the spin move on the sideline, almost stepped out and got the first down because they couldn't overturn it.

If this is signifying he's out, I give him credit for saying it in advance and being classy. I really was pulling for him to lead this team this year, but there were too many factors that mucked that up I think. Hope he tears it up next year, wherever he goes.

Was good to see him throw a TD at the end, even if it was garbage time. A good way to go out.

I do, though, wonder if there's any chance he stays if Kizer winds up leaving...

I wouldn't think he'd stay and risk being beaten out by Winbush. He's likely going somewhere where it's almost a guarantee he'll start.

Yeah. Probably. He'd have to stay well aware he may not get the starting job, with a Tommy Rees sort of role. Seems unlikely, but if Kizer leaves I'd feel a lot better having Malik around.

He might have to go MAC level if he wants a guarantee to start. As we saw with Golson, it's not easy to step in at a big-time school and be the man. Best of luck in whatever he does.

He'll do better than the MAC.

As I remember it... Golson showed how easy it is to step into a perennial NC contender and start.

I don't think he's a MAC level player but if he wants to be guaranteed a starting position he might want to go to a "lower" level school. Heck, if Kizer leaves he would be in a great position to start here. He knows the system, coaches, etc...

Good luck to you Malik for whatever your future holds! Congrats to you on getting your degree! One only has to wonder what would've been if you hadn't gotten injured last year....

Go Irish!

I'd be shocked if he stayed as it's pretty well known that bridge was burned this year between Kelly & him. Don't know the interest level on either side but he'd be a perfect fit in Auburn's offense and they seem to lack the dual-threat QB they had in Newton & Marshall.

I do feel bad for him. He didn't handle his demotion well this year and I'm disappointed in him for that but he worked so hard last year and was ready to be a leader until the injury. Then Kelly toyed with him this year. Zaire, if managed properly this year, could have been effective in certain situations.

Best of luck. It's amazing how every QB under Kelly has regressed other than Tommy Rees who started on a scale of 1-10 as a 3 and ended as a 4.
