That certainly seems reasonable.

When it gets out that Jerry is really Supreme Leader Snoke, hoping Jaylon chooses to leave the dark side and join the Colts.

He has more guaranteed money than Kuechly now, with only CJ Mosley and Bobby Wagner ahead of him. Well deserved, couldn't happen to a better player that has paid his dues and fought back from a terrible injury. Jerry Jones had nothing but compliments in the ESPN article:

"He has never complained," Jerry Jones said. "He has never wavered, never missed a workout, and he's never quit. Not one time. He is admired by his teammates. He is admired by the people he competes against. His story is one that I would have done anything to be sure that it could be a Dallas Cowboys story."

They mentioned that getting Jaylon's deed done means a little less of the pie for the other 3 that still need to sign. Obviously Dak is going to get his money, they're not going to let him go. I'm sure he'll be the next priority. Wonder what will go down with Cooper and Elliot though. Do the Cowboys let Elliot walk and let his backup take over like the Steelers did? Great running back, but he's come with baggage since he entered the league, and behind that OL there's a lot of backs that can be successful.

Zach Martin agreed to a six-year extension last year worth $84 million with $40 million guaranteed, averaging $14 mill/yr, plus a $20 mill signing bonus. Hopefully, Jaylon gets the same type of signing bonus.

One Cowboys blog site: "This is unbelievable for the Cowboys... Consider that the New York Jets signed C.J. Mosley for $17M per year in free agency. The Seattle Seahawks locked down Bobby Wagner for a deal valued at $18M per year. For Smith to be at $12.8M per year is just unfathomable."

NFL Inside Linebacker Contracts (OTC)

Prior to Jaylon's signing the Cowboys had $23 mill in cap space. Cooper and Elliott combined count nearly $18 mill in cap space.

I’m kind of getting sick of the Zeke circus. This might be like ripping off the band aid, with him. Pollard looking good and like a viable part of a 2 man committee doesn’t hurt either.

The Cowboys are my NFC team. They were my team before the Colts came to Indy. People give me grief about having two teams but you don't just turn it off. Especially when you've cheered them on in 8 Superbowls.

Jaylon loves the Cowboys and the fact that they took him early in the second round when no one else believed in him will make him a Cowboy for life. Jones is evidently going to work to get him some endorsement deals as well.

Many in Dallas believe that Dak will eventually sign for 32.5 a year. Is he worth that? These QB deals are just getting out of hand.

Jones is pissed at Zeke. As is the fanbase. Jerry has defended this kid to the point of being fined millions and this is how he's repaid? Two years left on his contract. If he doesn't show up by week one, the belief is the top 5 deal currently on the table will be withdrawn and his agent will be invited to seek a trade. The reality is Dallas controls his rights for the next 4 seasons. This isn't Bell gutting out one last franchise season. The guy is just a knucklehead and it may be best to just move on. Too bad. He's a monster.

Yeah, at this point I kind of hope they sign Dak to a large deal and it leaves little to nothing for Zeke. He's a head case, and he can't stay out of trouble. He's great on the field, but there are plenty of productive backs that can run behind that OL which is one of the best in the game.

Jones still likes to coddle the good players to an extent and likes to think of himself as their bud. He needs to treat each instance like a business deal and move forward. Forget whether they are going to like you or not. They are out to get as much money as possible (rightfully so) and aren't worried about Jerry's feelings.

Yes he does. Jones helped Elliot out a lot. I think he was involved in 4+ police incidents that got minimal coverage lol. If I were Jerry, I'd be quietly shopping him for draft picks. Between the money, the headache (off field), and his diva-ness, I'd happily let him be someone else's headache.

BTW, I don't think DP is worth 30+M a year either. Take EE away, and DP doesn't look near as good. I think Jones is in a rough spot with a mediocre QB wanting top 5 money, and a diva top 5 RB flexing. I'd prefer a better QB (Tua next draft?) and a less diva even if it means less talented RB.

I'm pumped that he has been able to come back from that injury. Wonder how much different things would have turned out for him had he not got hurt.

Another Dallas fan, and well said.

Zeke has little leverage. He has two years of contract, and the Cowboys can franchise tag him another year or two if they want before the salary gets out of hand.

If he sits out, Pollard is an option and they can wait for cut down day to pick up depth.

This is not the Emmit Smith situation from the early 90s, this is a passing league and Dallas has decent offensive weapons they can use. Dak is not Aikman, but since he wants a very fat new contract also, many fans see this as a way for Dak to prove his worth without Zeke on the field.

Both players may get what they have asked for, but it may not turn out the way they had anticipated when they took their stances.

Anyone know what is going on with Jaylon? His numbers are off tremendously from last year. I watched most of the game yesterday and Lee played in his place for most of the 2nd half with him only getting in for some spot plays.

https://sportdfw.com/2019/09/27/dallas-cowboys-somethings-wrong-jaylon-smith/

48 total tackles and 2 sacks through 6 games is pretty awesome for a LB. Wonder if he was banged up yesterday because he's been playing way more than Lee the other games.

Had 56 tackles in the month of November alone, 112 through 12 games. Currently on pace for 150 tackles.

But locally the poor linebacker play this year by Cowboys has repeatedly been cited as part of their demise.

With a remotely competent coaching staff, the Cowboys are probably something like 9-3 instead of 6-6.
