interesting regarding his choices...as he told dabo he wanted to go to the west coast....and ND, okl, ark, texas sure as hell aren't on west coast

I hope that that's misinterpreted. Maybe Dabo asked him about the west coast and he's like "Yeah, that'd be cool".

Sending mixed messages is not a good sign that a person is going to find their fit at ND. It's one thing if it's a 17 year old who's young and excited about everything, it's different when it's a college grad who's still sending mixed signals. So I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that "wants to be on west coast" and "doesn't list a west coast team" is a misinterpretation.

Probably as simple as the west Coast seemed like the obvious fit, but things aren't panning out that way.

Probably. I'm just trying to build some skepticism so I don't get disappointed when he doesn't come win a championship at ND in 2017.

Here's more to get you needlessly optimistic.

Late visits are better in the regular signing period. 18 yos have short memories and are impulsive. Last word wins.

But a 22 yo man that has graduated college is in a totally different boat. He knows the score and is looking for something specific.

If he gets to ND and...

- likes the sale's pitch (ND's is always impressive, and is more impressive for a 22 year old staring at the real world)
- likes the coaches
- feels comfortable around the players
- likes the depth chart

...I highly doubt he takes all his visits. I bet he'll commit to the first school that checks all the boxes, unless he has promised to take another.

I think ND has a really good shot.

Being 22, he's probably a bit more pragmatic than an 18 year old. I don't know if he'll commit to the first school that checks all the boxes, but I wouldn't be surprised if the staff lands him when he visits.

Really don't see where location will be a factor. He'll only be there for half a year then go and prepare somewhere for the NFL draft. More about playing time (starter) and being comfortable with coaching staff.

Anyone have a bead on the DT depth at the other 6 places? If we get this guy, I have us in the playoffs.

He can start at Oregon, OU, and ND. Oregon and ND both have four man fronts while OU plays 3-4. Think a four man front is best for him. He played in 4 man front at Clemson.

Part of me thinks that OU will try to sell him on the "almost half the NFL teams run a 3-4" argument. But at the same time, he just doesn't look or play like a NT. He is currently 6'3" and 280. His game is more comparable to a Sheldon Day than an Vince Wilfork.

Think the OU interest comes from the Brent Venables- Stoops connection. Hopefully Elko will be able to sell him on how his defense will better prepare him for NFL.

A good DT could REALLY change the outlook on next season. The offense is going to be excellent. A serviceable defense gets us a lot of wins next year, and the interior DLine is our primary weakness. This point will be sold. The need is there and he would be a high-profile player.

Plus, it would be very good Karma to get a high-profile grad transfer Polynesian(?) from San Diego via, South Carolina, to help get the program back on track.

After all it, it was the double whammy of...

(1) A kid from S. Carolina who ended up as a high-profile grad transfer, and
(2) A Hawaiian kid in San Diego

...that kicked "Uncle Mo" in the nads the off-season we should have been riding high after the 2012 NC appearance.

I know we don't pay traditional recruits but I think we should make an exception for grad transfers since it's much lower risk and just drop him a million dollars for his services.

Actually he's not Polynesian. He's an Italian from San Diego who grew up in Hawaii.

He said it was funny when he arrived at Clemson and everyone was excited about getting a Polynesian kid from Hawaii. Said they were disappointed when he told them he didn't have any Polynesian blood in him. LOL

I gurantee if he comes to Notre Dame he starts next year. Our depth chart at DT isn't that great, a lot of unknowns. Is cage going to be healthy? Is jerry Jones going to come out and play with a fire under his ass like he has shown at times or be inconsistent?
