If he never steps on the field for a game, does he use a year of eligibility?

TIFWIW - but I seen a comment he made on IG to someone at ND (think a student that he's friends with) and he said something along the lines of "hold it down until I get back". Obviously, 95% probability it means nothing but thought I would share.

Yes. He already redshirted. This year, his redshirt sophomore season is already gone. He'll have 2 to play 2 once he transfers to a program next year.

Go away Greg. Do your thing and find your way into the NFL. I'll always love you but you quit on your boys.

Did I miss something? I don't get this. It seemed to me he already burned his redshirt, and in that case I'd rather him be playing and working out somewhere...hope whatever he does in the class leads him back home. He is a kid, despite adversity, who appears to want to come home. Rather self inflicted or not, Golson, Russel, Mike Floyd, even Ishaq etc. tell a story of how special the place is...when its easier to give up, people fight their ass off to stay/come back. Every time a kid finds his way home, that says something other recruiters can't explain away. I don't hope for kids to fall, but each one who makes it back etches out a place in my heart/memory, regardless of what they do on the field.

Based on what I've read between the lines on, he was caught more than once with his drug issue, and was too lazy to take care of class, and always thought he was above the coaches and didn't have to improve on the little things. I like him and if he turns it all around then I want him back, but that's a lot to change and it sounds like he's had more than 1 warning and decided each time to continue doing it his own way with his own rules. Tough love hurts, man.

Personally, I don't want him back, but I feel for his pops and I would hate to be in that position myself...worrying about my kid's future. I seriously doubt Greg can turn things around, but for his own sake I hope he does. The kid needs the right attitude and dedication if he hopes to come out of this situation on top.

If he can put the weed and laziness (if both true) behind him, and wants to turn it around, I'd welcome him back. From what I've seen, he comes from good stock (dad). Kids make mistakes (I know I did). If he's finally figured it out (maybe it took this to ring the bell), then I hope he comes back and gets his degree.

I'm not up on any of that...

I had great hopes he'd really get going this year on the field. But want him to get the experience of working hard in class, and the reward for having done it. Same on the field. Maturity comes when it comes...has a huge impact on how you approach preparation in all facets...guessing this situation might help. Yea, I got ya tough love does hurt...

The problem is he isn't learning. The school made a statement with the 5 being suspended. If that doesn't open your eyes nothing will.

could classes at ASA even contribute to getting Bryant back into ND academically. Im guessing not?

definitely not going to hurt. if he can prove that he excels (or even just gets by) at ASA, he is showing that he has the ability to attend classes, study, and work toward goals.

some people learn by others doing wrong, some by themselves making bone headed moves. notice I focused my comment on him coming back to get a degree. I was not the wisest 20 year old in the world, and had half the pressure,,,, so not going to throw stones or say this kid can't get back on track. can he, long shot. but if he does, he's welcome back IMO. i'd rather hope for a good news story if he's willing to change some behaviors.

This is very well said, and it also plays into the mentality that I have from yesterday. Kids make mistakes and all of them learn from them differently and are affected differently by how those around them react. The young RB from Florida handled himself very well during his ass chewing and after as he explained his feelings towards coach McElwain. I am very impressed with that, even though I disagreed with how the coach handled it. In our case, Greg is making mistakes, but if he understands what he must do to complete the challenge that is ND and he owns it, why not give him a shot at it? Just my two cents.

Posted a video on instagram with a few short clips of him playing at his JUCO.

He hashtagged a handful of schools: Louisville, Auburn, Virginia Tech, UAB, Cincinnati, Arizona, Tennessee (or Texas?) and A&M.

he's only played in 1 game so far this year. His school's schedule is basically a bunch of exhibition games. They have no contests between now and late october.

Ha I would selfishly love it if he chose Cincinnati.

They'll only have one proven RB after this year.

Ha, I meant in terms of adding depth, not that Greg is a proven RB.

BUT I looked into it and it appears I was wrong. UC has a 1a, 1b, and 2 right now. They return 1b and 2 next year. I thought 1b was graduating but it appears he got a redshirt last year for injury.

Not a chance in hell he will be able to wait till the end of the season to post his highlights.
