I agree it will suck to lose out on this young man. I think he would do well how ever we used him. But i was never sold on him coming to ND. He seems like a stay close type of kid to me. IMO. And not saying thats a bad thing i would rather him stay home and be comfortable then come to ND and then want to leave. All is good though in a little over 24 hours we will be working on the 14 class.

So then I guess it's decided.../thread

I spent a lot of time in San Diego in my first job. I understand Southern California. I've also traveled all over the country and been to every state except Washington, Louisiana, Oregon, and Alaska. I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that LA is overrated. I'm not even sure it's in the top 5 places in Cali.

But who's it overrated to bro? You? Me? Thing is everybody is different. I loved L.A. when I lived there, but it stopped working for me and I couldn't wait to leave. There are scores of people that LOVE it there. The weather, the nightlife, the women, the job opportunities in big corporations, the beaches (and the women that go with it), the mountains, the diversity, the food options, etc. Sure, you and I can also go through the bad things and rip the city apart (as we could for every city, really), but there wouldn't be so much damn traffic if so many people didn't want to live there.

You know how many people badmouth South Bend? Sh!t, I love it out here! Screw them. I know I'm in the minority but this city gives me and me family everything we need. It's all about what YOU like as an individual.

So that's what I'm getting at. A guy from L.A. might say that South Bend is a dump, but a SoCal boy like Troy Niklas still chooses to come here. And a guy from Virginia might think that L.A. is overrated as is the weather, and yet a certain recruit might LOVE L.A. and its weather. There are lots of places in the U.S. where I wouldn't dare think of living, but others love living there. To each his own is how I choose to look at it.

Hopefully EV will look at L.A. the way you do LAX lol...

Great perspective. To relate this a little more to EV people generally think Sacramento sucks (where EV is from). People in the Bay Area in particular consistently talk badly about Sacramento, but I think it's awesome. Ya it get's hot and it isn't culturally as diverse as SF but it's got amazing access to the Mountains and Tahoe, it's far more affordable and spacious, and people are very nice.

To each his own indeed. And if you don't like temperate sunny days year round, yes LA's weather does suck.

Take it for what its worth but have heard from more than 1 in the know that ucla would be the team to beat.

1) He said would be the team to beat, not the team to beat.

2) This now just adds to the countless other reports that the say it's Bama or it's UW, or it's UCLA or it's ND.

3) I think we're still in the hunt.

You're right, it's all subjective. To be fair, the first time I visited LA was the first time I ever went to California and I thought it was the best. I've since been to LA/California quite a few times and I realized that I actually straight up don't like the place relative to other places in Cali. But that's just my opinion. I have no facts or hard evidence or charts or numbers to back up my opinion that LA just isn't that much more of a desirable place to live then a plethora of other places in Cali and elsewhere.

You know how many people badmouth South Bend? Sh!t, I love it out here! Screw them. I know I'm in the minority but this city gives me and me family everything we need. It's all about what YOU like as an individual.

How does UCLA have all this momentum? Just by default because they're the best program in SoCal currently?

I know we had a rough January, but UCLA finished the season by getting beaten by Stanford TWICE and then getting blown up by Baylor.

That's some bullsh!t. A 5-loss nouveau riche team with an NFL coach who likely won't be there past 2015 is going to go 3/3 on recruiting battles with us down the stretch after our dream season.

Why? Because SOCAL, BRAH!

been thinking the same thing.
i sum it up simply that more than anything "USC's losses are UCLA gain"

i think they benefit the most, more than any other school from all the stuff thats happened to USC last couple years.

ps the UCLA 2013 class is loaded with DB's.
DT/DE/DL's---not so much.
not yet.

As has been mentioned a few times, he's from Auburn, not Sacramento. Not far apart? Yes. Difference: Sacramento is in the valley. Auburn is up in the foothills.

That said, I avoid LA like the plague, but absolutely LOVED living in San Diego.

Ya people do the same thing with Orange County, lump it in with LA and it's completely different.

This map should help clarify things. PS I was born in Sac! Kings for life (until they move to Seattle).

I was once in Sigalert for a science convention and caught pneumonia, viral infection of the sinuses, inner ear infection, and eye infection so badly that I had to be hospitalized when I got back to SWMichigan [where we have some health standards]. I have "very fond" memories of LA.

The family once did drive the coast from Shamu to Very Tall Trees and it had some nice places here and there. And I've attended science conventions at Stanford and at San Francisco; both of those were nice. But expensive.

Not every sign. Momma Vanderdoes is all in on ND still, no?

Last time I checked I know he said he will make a family decision but remember its till Eddie's choice. All national mods are saying UCLA. I trust Adam Gorney and what he says. Just reporting what is out there.

So is this a done deal to UCLA? That's what everyone is saying and it kind shocks me so soon after his OV to Bama.

Not surprising dad favors UCLA considering he doesn't like to fly lol
