Dayne Crist has started 4 games i dont think you can call him a bust.

Maybe he hasnt been injury prone and maybe he has a winning record as a starter?

I said maybe because he is an Irish player, has two years of eligibilty, and I will root my *** off for him as a person and as a football player.

But I dont think he had any influence over the recruitment of Floyd.

I believe the best recruiter we have, player wise is Manti, it isnt about position it is about leadership and charisma. Every prospect should have 30 minutes Manti time. Im just sayin...........

Of course a committed QB has an influence on a WR recruit. A WR would be dumb not to look at this, and I'm sure the coaches recruiting a WR use a committed QB as a tool to convince the WR.

I was reading mgoblog and realized that a lot of Michigan fans do not want Mauk. There seems to be a general consensus that he is a spoiled brat with a bad attitude, whom has a dad that did everything in his power to make sure that the ball was in his hand as much as possible (onside kicks, always going for 2, etc) in efforts to pad his stats. Anybody know how much truth is to this?

Even if it isn't true, I really want Kiel more. I hate to think that either of these guys would end up at scUM. I have a feeling that Kiel would make us pay for four years if he went to Michigan, I don't get that feeling if they ended up with Mauk or Pike.

Who.

Dayne Crist has started 4 games i dont think you can call him a bust.

Crist started 9 games. (1 against Tulsa was only the first part of the first quarter)

Dayne won 4 games. (probably what you were thinking of)

Rees started 4 games. (and most of Tulsa)

Venison Stew

Dayne could be labeled a bust?
And maybe Weis/Clausen had something to do with Floyd signing.

While probably the largest contributing factor to the allure for Michael, he probably had to realize that it was HIGHLY unlikely that he would finish his career at ND with Clausen behind center. Not only was he a year older, odds of Clausen spending a full 4 years here was slim-to-none. Assuming Michael spent all 4 years here (which low and behold- he is), that would give Michael 2 years with another QB. So I DO think that Crist being here had an impact with Floyd. Besides, didn't they develop some sort of chemistry at one of the AA games?

Boy, the speculative analysis of future planning about what goes on in 17-year-old heads make them sound like CIA puppet-masters. I wish that I had students that brilliant strategically when I was teaching. The human breed has improved!

Did a little facebook snooping and I saw that Gunner has 'Play Like a Champion Today' under his favorite quotes. Love it.

....why would he go to ND's when he's been on campus twice and all signs are pointing to a Mauk commit?

Not that I think this will happen, but if Kiel committed to IU, would you guys consider that as a clear sign that the qb depth/commits on our team are the reason he didn't choose us?

Wouldn't that be a story?!! "IU beats ND, UM, OU and Bama for the #1 QB in the country". It would have to be the first sign of the apocalypse.

Stuff like that happens more often than people realize. #1 RB, #6 overall of '09 ago went to Colorado (and recently transferred to USF). Andrew Luck went to Stanford when they were an absolute laughing stock. Blaine Gabbert went to Missouri and they are FAR from a power (I say that as someone whose grandmother is a season ticket holder). Jake Locker went to Washington.

There is a lot of precedent for elite/top 5 prospects to going off the beaten path.

It's Little 5. He's going to go get trashed and listened to Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller.

Isn't lil Wayne performing as well?

I honestly wouldn't be that shocked if he committed to IU. Literally 30 min from where he lives and there new coach seems legit and he is the former OC at OKlahoma.

Think Lil Wayne already performed at IU, there is a picture of him on the internet performing with a Skylar Diggins jersey on, and I believe it's at IU.

Kiel and Indiana

Kiel and Indiana

I doubt if Gunner will settle for Indiana. He may visit for the spring game but too
many bigger fish will be looking at him once they know ND is out of the picture.

I didn't think of it that way. Good point.

On a side note.... IU woooouuuuld be the only team on that list that has never won a National Championship in football. Not that matters though.

Sentrell gave Minnesota a courtesy sniff as the local school, even putting them in his top 5 even though everyone knew they were probably about 25th on his list. I'd imagine Kiel is doing the same to a lesser degree. While I don't doubt that he's looking at them, I seriously doubt he'll sign with them, unless he bombs his senior year.
