Heck. Give me any athlete, and he can play any scheme. I always wonder why folks think it takes a precise template of an athlete to play a certain scheme or position (other than the obvious - a 6'5 300 lb. guy might not be a quick receiver...).

Athletes, contrary to popular belief among fans that post, are not dumb.

Chris Watt is our biggest "in" with Tommy Schutt. I say he will be Irish.

Would be a great pick-up!

Amen, IrishCa. We aren't talking kickers, these are elite DLmen!

I understand that we did well at DE last year with Lynch, Tuitt, Hounshell, and Big Tony, but now that it looks like Troy is destined to be a OLB, that is 4 guys. We were making up for lost ground last year. 3 DLmen should be the goal every year, knowing that we might only get two some years. 4 in a make-up year is fine, but should not slow us down the next year.

The idea of not taking at least 2 DL this year, whoever they are, is just crazy to me. The idea of turning down one of those 3 elite players just seems dumb.

DLine is where its at.

This is great news about Schutt, he's one of my favorite recruits in this class. As for who I would take between Jones, Schutt, and Day, I would go with Schutt very narrowly above Jones.

I hope this is his last visit....

When I recruit, my hope/wish is that we are the first or last place a recruit visits. preferably last....

some people on the ND scout boards seam to think we wont take Jarron Jones if Schutt does commit before him. I find it hard to believe that our staff wouldnt take a :s::s::s::s::s: DE if he wanted to commit.

Pipe dreams man.

I never imagined we'd take 25 DEs last year either.

That's my logic, which has foundation.

I don't understand why Notre Dame would turn down Jarron. I mean Schutt is a NT, Jarron is a DE, and Day projects as a swing DE/DT....it's just ludicrous they would turn down Jarron after giving him "the red carpet" treatment.

How about we just play 5 defensive linemen and get this over with already (is that legal? irrespective of whether it would be wise).

We can become DL University.

Interesting turn of events the staff has told Schutt they currently don't have a spot for him. He was planning on committing tuesday
