I don't believe it. Though it probably does mean Jones is a silent commit.

Major changes regarding Top247 DT Tommy Schutt and his recruitment. Could visit Michigan on Friday.

Interesting turn of events the staff has told Schutt they currently don't have a spot for him. He was planning on committing tuesday

The info is per 24/7. It does state that he would have committed Tuesday but was told there were no more spots available.

Yeah, I'm skeptical about this bit of news.

EDIT: I can see how Day's commitment might have made him concerned about his future playing time (with the DLs currently on hand) but ND turning him away seems improbable.

We would make room for Jones. mark it

Agree 100%.

The more interesting question is whether we would have taken Day had Jones and Shutt committed first. Day seemed to think that this was not a sure thing and I think he has a point. I do not agree, but I think he was wise to pull the trigger.

NGs don't come around everyday. You take as many DL that want to come. I strongly disagree whith this desicion but i'm not Kelly so watever.

Seems to me that from reading between the lines that the scenario probably played out as such: The staff was aware the Schutt was going to commit this week during his visit, and gave Day and ultimatum: Commit to ND now or lose your spot to Schutt. Day considered it, and chose to commit to ND rather than risk losing his spot by playing out the process.

If this is how the events unfolded, which I think is reasonable and plausible, then it is obvious the staff is higher on Day (who knows by how much) than Schutt. I will support the staff's decision, but I am a little disappointed that we couldn't have room for both. Lord knows we can never have too many defensive linemen in the stable.

Hope Jones signs with ND.

I like Schutt so much more than Day can't we just tell him to reconsider or something NG of this caliber don't come around often.

Not to pry too much.... but seriously, who's mouth is this info coming from? A "source" or Tommy or who?

Also... this is the difference between us and Alabama. Alabama signs them up and figures out the rest later. Probably just cut a guy.

Steve Wiltfong for 24/7 reported it, without citing a specific source. Normally that would be raise eyebrows, but Steve has always been extremely reliable in his reporting, so I am inclined to believe it.

i know this has been said but i will say it just for the hell of it....obviously, Brian Kelly and company know something about what is going on behind the scenes...who knows, but just like the players on the team must believe in him...so must the fans!!!

It's hard to find to find a NG but if it's to get Jones then I'm fine with the staff's decision. Jones has 3 inches on Schutt and more filled out. Perhaps if he goes to Michigan then he will one day line up against the team that spurned him. An interesting story at any rate.

So that would suggest that the Staff was higher on Day than Schutt. Damn I still think we could of taken both of them. Don't understand this logic- they play two different positions.
