Oh oh, while we got your attention, what's the chances we can get some IE members only jackets made up?

I'd rock that sh*t 7 days a week and twice on Sundays

I already have one. I had an "Irish Envy" insignia made and I sewed it over my "Member's Only" insignia.

The ladies love it.

Soooo, I've had this thought since watching Golson play last spring. All you need to do with this video is replace Mcnabb's name with Golson. Is it a stretch? Could be. Is it wishful thinking? Definitely.

Add 2 inches and 40 lbs

anyone see the pic of him throwing on the run that the turning point put up on facebook??? i don't know if this is how he always throws...but interesting he doesn't throw w/ the laces..again this could have been just a drill where he picks up the ball and throws..idk..but anyways thinking back to the blue/gold game last year w/ terrible conditions he did have the ball fall out of his hands i believe on 2 plays...could this be from him not throwing w/ the laces?

A lot of QBs don't use the laces.

A lot of QB's hands are big enough that it isn't needed too. I tried to look a little up on the hand span on nfl qb's. The average seems to be 9.5" from tip of pinky to tip of thumb. Mike Vick's hand span is 8.5" while Favre's hand span was 10 3/8".

I wonder how laces/no laces affects throwing a wet ball. Though I'm sure it must not have too big of an effect on him considering his high school stats.

Alright. Here I am to answer all your laces questions. lol

I don't always throw with the laces either. If your fingers are touching the laces, you'll usually move to using the laces, but if not, it's not hard to throw without them. It's a good talent to have when running the spread.

And yes, when the ball is very slick, throwing with the laces is the better option by far in my experience. You need all the extra grip you can get.

Well said BB,

Really the laces issue comes down to hand size. The bigger the hand the less important laces become and less effect on flight pattern.

With a spread offense it's great for a Qb to not have to spin the ball to find the laces because of all the quick passes run.... 1 step, 2 step, screens, hitches, swings..... you want the Qb to get the ball from center and throw as quick as possible....

A friend of mine played Qb at the college level and told me when the ball was wet he would stay away from the laces, his reason being that you have more surface contact with the actual ball.... What i think? all Qb are superstitious and have quirky beliefs and rituals.....

I remember from one of the first videos of Kelly's practices ever he literally said laces are not for D1 scholarship quarterbacks.

My QB from college, who is now playing overseas in Italy, was coached by Dan Simrell. Who I believe is still the all time wins coach at Toledo and was the QB coach at West Virginia for Marc Bulger. He told the quarterbacks that as long as the ball got out of your hands on time and accurately he didn't care about the laces or not. My guess is that everybody has a different philosophy.

This is true. Most QB's are getting taught to not use the laces nowadays. The reasoning behind it is that a QB isn't always going to have the time to find the laces. Especially in today's pass first spread offenses where decisions are made instantly. Coaches want their QB's to be able to quickly release the ball at a moments notice.

Kiel Frazier comes to mind as well. He has a cannon and purposely throws without the laces.

Where did you play Findlay? Northern? You are a home town guy?

Danny is one of my favorite people. He was an assistant when I was there. He was the one that was so nearsighted that the upperclassmen would cheat up five or ten yards on sprints and really get an atta boy from him on their impressive times.

Danny was QB at UT in the early to mid-sixties, for Frank Lauterbur, who started the 36-0 Rocket Romp. Lauterbur was hired by Bump Eliott, father of our DB coach, as the University of Iowa coach.

Gary Pinkel has the most wins; and Tom Amstutz has the most bowl victories. By a fluke, Nick Saban has the highest winning percentage.

Here is a trivia question. What D1 QB has the highest winning percentage of all time? Hint, he started every game possible in his career which was briefer that it would be now, but there is no reason to believe he would have lost any of those additional games either.

I played at Trine University. We were very blessed to have Dan on staff. He retired and moved to a lake house in Fremont, Indiana, got bored and came to our coaching staff and wanted to volunteer his time. Turned our qb into the Gagliari Trophy winner (Division III Heisman). Dan coached last year for the Bologna Warriors.
