It's not surprising, really. The writing was on the wall when Golson went to FSU, if they were going to use Golson it would be in a much more limited role. Credit Fisher, he knows how to get the most out of his QBs, and he is getting the most out of Everett by asking him to do as little as possible in their offense. By minimizing Everett's involvement he's reducing the opportunity for turnovers. Everett is averaging about 25 passes a game which is much less than at ND. That's roughly 12 fewer passes a game for Golson compared to last year. He's also averaging 50% less scrambles, although this number is harder to gauge based on stat sheets since sacks are incorporated there. Fisher passed the ball a lot more often with Jameis at the helm. For the most part this current offense runs through Cook and Pender and Golson is managing the game.

Just look at Golson this year compared to last year. At ND at 5-0/6-0 he had some turnovers, was on everyone's Heisman ballot, and was putting up monster stats as most of the offense was on his shoulders. This year FSU is currently 5-0, Golson has no turnovers, and yet he's not on anyone's Heisman ballot.
I think Golson didn't have any turnovers for ND this time last year. They came in bunches beginning mid-season.

By the end of the North Carolina game he had 3 INTs on the year and some fumbles if I recall. Not a lot, true, they certainly came after the halfway point. You could see that as the injuries were piling up he was forced into doing more and more, and he struggled with it when we got down.

At this point last year Golson already had 7-8 turnovers.

This was my biggest gripe with Kelly, he put way too much on Golson last year. Fisher is smart the way he is using him this year. Will be interesting to see how he does vs. Clemson when he may need to make some plays for them to win.

Yeah, it certainly wasn't the first time Kelly did it. He did the same thing with Tommy. Rees should have been asked to throw the ball 20-25 times a game, relying on the RBs mostly and keeping the defense honest with screens, slants, and play action. Kelly says "Nope! Lets throw the ball about 35+ times a game."

Hard to believe that he still hasn't turned the ball over yet this year. Granted, FSU hasn't played the toughest of competition yet, but still hard to believe. It makes me sick to think about how much better the Irish would have done last year if he had just protected the damn ball!

Eh, I think about 1/2 of EG's turnovers last year were on him. Must have had at least 5-6 picks alone hit the hands of our receivers first.

he hasn't had do to shit. Its pretty easy to not turn it over when you hand it off 99% of the time. He was the vocal point of the offense last year. Big difference

I think all of EG's turnovers were on him. But I don't necessarily think our coach put him in the best position to succeed.

I guess that's the point. Why was he the focal point of the offense? Focusing on a strong running game would have benefited Golson very much. Oh well, all in the past and has been discussed ad nauseam.

Even on running plays EG's doing more than just handing it off... check out the hit he takes to make this one happen. This TD's like 20% good downfield blocking, 20% percent Cook's speed, 20% bad defense, and 40% EG making the perfect play.

A well run option, but that doesn't change the fact that FSU's offense essentially goes through Cook/Pender. Golson was the focal point of the offense at ND, he was asked to throw the ball a lot and make plays with his legs. He's not in the same role at FSU, otherwise his 0 turnovers and perfect record this year would have him in the Heisman talk. Instead it's Cook in that position.

Yeah, I agree with that. Just pointing out that it's not like he's a passive player in that offense, even when he's not necessarily generating stats (see also: the TD breaking block he threw a few weeks ago).

I remember him using the ball instead of his open hand to try and balance himself as he was scrambling and fumbling. I also remember him fumbling the ball when trying to spike it to stop the clock. There are several others but these stand out the most. No one else to blame but him for most of his TOs.

Not every player fits every system or coaching scheme. To me, EGs personality, body, and skills weren't the perfect fit for ND (pressure, leadership requirements, etc), and BK's system.

Compared to his time at ND, his attempts and completions are down, but % took a nice jump (sitting at 67%), YPA about the same, sacks are less than half over 2014, and zero INTs and fumbles. RAT is up to 151.

Anyway you look at it, he's being asked to do less and looking better doing it.

Will he rise to the occasion when challenged later this year against better opponents (Louisville, GT, Clemson, Florida, and Bowl.... Only time will tell. So far I think it's been a good move for both him and ND.

I think if his goal was to play, he made the right call. He couldn't predict MZ would be out for the year after week 2. If the goal was to get ready for the NFL, well, he didn't help or hurt his cause. It's pretty clear that Jumbo knows that he can keep the game close with Cook and their D. It's very similar to what EG was asked to do in 2012. FSU will probably lose one game this year, go to a new years 6 game and lose by multiple scores. EG will not show anything to scouts he hasn't shown before and he ends up as a UDFA.

Getting harrassed by Louisville on account of poor O-line play. He tried to go over to talk to the O-line huddle on the sideline and was literally pushed away and screamed at. The commentators just tried to play it off like, "well, that's how they do it here on Jimbo Fisher's staff."

If that was one of our coaches the purple face pundits would explode with glee.

Cook just pulled up mid run for the third week in a row, he's got to be out for a while, a lot more is going to fall on EG's shoulders.

Repeated blitzing and missed tackles exposing Louisville. Why do 90% DC's in the country insist on taking their players out of position 3 out of 4 plays?

Btw, why the hell is FSU's field a sand pit? It was flying everywhere in the Miami game last week, and looks even crappier today.

As much as i want them to lose FSU winning out then getting blitzed in death valley would be the best possible thing for ND.

Louisville one of the dumbest collection of players on the field i've ever witnessed, my Lord. Add in Grantham and horrible play calling by Bobby P. and game over.

EG is balling today. Most of his incompletions are him tossing the ball away after his line collapses.
