I can't help it. When I see a bad argument I get itchy.

You are not the only one.
I can't argue about who is better than who. Never could. When the neighborhood kids used to say my dad could kick you dads ass, I used to answer "Maybe. But have your dad come out here and hit me; we'll find out! But your dad better be prepared to go through my mother first!"
To me, at any given level it comes down to more than talent. It comes down to the right guy being in the right situation, and wanting it the most. If I would have any knock on Golson, it would be on the mental side. Others have noted it, so I don't think that this is any new or controversial ground.
My feeling is that Golson could have skipped football, and we still would have been familiar with his name. I think he is a better basketball player than many are aware. Had he given it all to hoops with the opportunity he had, he may have been pretty special.
Back to being in the right place at the right time, the ultimate current example is 12 gage from the end of the UM game. So much so that if he had started from the beginning of the season, or even the middle, I cannot see OSU making a successful title run.
ND was a good situation for EG, with a red shirt year, then Tommy to bail him out. That was perfect, because the two quarterbacks were such a change of pace. Then '13 and his dismissal. So we will never know how he would have done with a really talented group for a follow up year. Last year he was given the reigns for too long, and ND had MZ to back him. But what really would happen this year? I like Everett just fine. He is a much better than average guy under incredible pressure. Some people can't do it. He didn't stick around to find out.
And this speculation of where he will go is out of hand. So is talk about his making it in the NFL. Even though Keith caved to the psychological pitfall of UND losing a 'starter,' (by mistaking the bomb in the spring game as coming from him, not MZ), he was right about one main thing : Everett Golson never was able to start two consecutive years at Notre Dame. Like others I think the situation has more to do with Kelly's affinity for the first quarterback he got at ND that fits his mold, than the overwhelming talent of EG. For all his skills at ND I think EG was very hard to play with, and I don't expect that to change any time soon. One of the best arms in football? Yes. One of the best team players, or a guy that could 'take the team on his back'?
