Right, there is no way this is a positive. We're losing an experience and electric talent that is head and shoulders better than the #3. I've always believed Zaire could get the job done but what happens if he can't.

I feel you but I also think ripping off the Band-Aid now is a genuine benefit.

I'm here... you can not, in any way, spin the starting QB transferring as a good thing... I wanted to see better development at QB, this isn't how you get it.

Wait, is this total left field for anyone else?? After all this kid went through to get back,... my first reaction is this has to be another academic thing or he got passed by MZ and threw his hands up... idk, this caught me way off guard. It does amaze me how ND just can not go through an offseason without some kind of major drama anymore tho... wow

Of all the off season drama from the last what, 4 - 5 years, this is the least cringe-inducing. I can't wait for Texas.

I agree it isn't a good thing, but the fact that he is transferring must mean that his starting role was not secure.

Seriously, lets not play this game. He accounted for 3,728 yards of total offense and 37 tds. You can question his decision making but to act as if wasn't a darn good player is ridiculous. We've went over this at length and the people that I follow that know the most about football do not think this way.

I am with ya. This is not a good day.

I know there was a lot of speculation about this happening, but I really didn't think he would leave. This is way out of left field for me. Not too happy about it either.

We can shit our pants if and when that happens. But, not today.

I get it, but if we believe that:

1 - ND's strength on offense is the OL & RB stable

and

2 - A running QB is better suited to ND's talent

I am not sure that it matters. EG has his talents, no doubt about that. But I felt that he was significantly hindered by play calling last year (which resulted in the team losing) and there is no doubt in my mind that if EG was the QB in 2015 we would see the same thing.

Sure, he may have been a good back-up plant to MZ, much the way TR was to EG in 2012. But if the time came for EG to start multiple games, I would imagine we would see the same results as 2014. At least with DK or BW, we will be run first, which is the way it should be this year.

Can't blame him for leaving. He has one more year to prove himself, and if BK wasn't going to name him the starter someone else will. I would have done the same thing.

I guess i just missed all the speculation... ??? This is shocking to me... for him to jump through all the hoops to come back the first time... oh well, wish him luck...

Pretty much what I posted earlier. You lose a guy who has contributed a ton. His backup is a proven (albeit with few games). So there was the luxury of two capable QBs.

Now, you have one who's proven in small sample size, followed up by guys who have received zero significant snaps (game or practice). That's less than ideal.

I'm really disappointed. This team is a lot better with EG on it. I had very high expectations for this year, now we are one play away from a guy who ran the scout team last year or a true freshman who won't be on campus for another month or so.

If Malik is inaccurate in the 1st half against Texas you better believe we're all going to be losing our collective shit.

How about if Malik tweaks something, or gets the wind knocked out of him, or his helmet comes off on a critical third down?

I love Malik, have been very high on him, and maybe he would have won the starting job anyway, but to think we will complete a season with a quarterback running the ball like Malik does is hoping for a lot.

While the Golson transfer may not be ideal for the 2015 season, it may pay dividends in the future. Zaire will get valuable playing time. Kizer will begin to get some meaningful snaps. And Wimbush will begin to develop.

Hopefully, the offensive line that we've been waiting for will finally arrive. Zaire could be very effective, especially if we can begin to run the ball consistently behind our offensive line. With the offense less predictable, Kelly can use Zaire's strengths to lead a productive, less pass happy offense.

All those wide receivers though....

I love MZ and his team first attitude, love the way he runs the spread, but am scared to death if we get into a shootout.

THIS is the silver lining. Lets hope Coach sticks to this plan....it's a good one.

Only two possible explanations at this point for me. The first is he wasn't going to get accepted into the masters program, and the second is he was worried he didn't have the job, or was going to lose it at some point.

i'm not upset by this. I thought it was going to happen any way and he was a turnover machine last season. BK should have made a change during the season last year.

Its fair to say BK was having an open QB competition and also proof things aren't handed to you at Notre Dame

Funny thing is I would wager he has a great season , and likely better then Malik who will be starting his first games sans the bowl.....if Golson ends up in the top 5 Heisman and we go 9-3-- the second and third guessing will be ferocious.

I don't think the bolded is very likely. It's gotta be football reasons of one kind or another.
