Just because it's 'known' to do that, doesn't mean it wouldn't piss you off. It's human nature to get defensive people take shots at your flesh and blood while sitting behind a keyboard, anonymously. While it would be smarter to avoid the Internet altogether when reading about his son, the fact is that he read it, and got pissed. When it comes to your own kids, I can't mad at a dad for getting pissed...

I understand your point. He opened pandora's box by going to check out what people were saying about Bruce. If he thought people weren't going to be highly critical of the pick up than he thought wrong. You said it yourself "it would be smarter to avoid the Internet altogether when reading about his son" he shouldn't be worried about people who never sat and watch Bruce play a down of football think.

Every year, everybody has their favorite prospect and every year there is a prospect people are highly critical of. Bruce just drew the short straw last year.

He's no Rudy, thats for sure. I think this kid will play. Anello on ST was superb.

If Heggie can turn all of this into motivation than that's great. Love guys that play with an edge!

someone on his fb asked in early november, hows the season going.

He said " its ok... we have a great bunch of guys on the team along with a great staff so we should be fine this year we hit some rough areas with a tough schedule off to start but we are determined to clean it up no worries"

I read a blurb that this kid has put on a ton of weight (ie muscle), anybody hear anything regarding that? I have always thought that this kid is intriguing. You cant coach size.

You sure you're not confusing him with Tate Nichols?

So he was moved to OL. Imo, just stick him somewhere where he can just blast the crap out someone and I'll be happy.

Heggie at back-up OG is great news to me. I've been hoping that he could make the transition to O-Line. He supposedly has the "relentless destroyer" attitude and the athleticism to be really good there. We needed to fill one back-up O-Line spot [Lombard/Golic/Nuss/Nichols] without having to waste one of the new guys as a freshman [not saying that someone like Hegarty or Martin might not be good enough to demand playing time, but there is less need].

This also could mean that with Hegarty, Hanratty, Martin, Carrico, and Prestwood coming in, and "only" Dever, Robinson, Nuss, and, probably Golic [due to tight scholarship numbers] leaving, we MIGHT just get by with three OTs in the 2012 class [Decker, Harrell, "Peat"]..... but four is usually what you want. Kelly might have to tell Peat and Banner and the rest of the big boys something similar to what he just told Day.

Was out there as the 3rd string Center in the first day of practice. Watt and Carrico were the 2nd team guards. Who knows maybe he and Carrico are competing for a backup guard job and it was Carrico's day to be out there with the 2s. Guess we'll find out in the next couple days.

I can't help rooting for this fellow to grow into somebody who gets some real playing time some day. He's our ultimate underdog just like my other heart-favorite Robbie. Go and get it, Bruce, and God bless you.

I am going to go ahead and say this ...

We all made a lot of fun out of his offer. I feel we had our fun and now it is coming to be a reality. Heggie, he never quit, he never gave up, he never bi#ched, he never whined, he changed roles, he worked hard, he was always discounted, he was called a "NOT HAPPENIN"ER" ...

Heggie is now next man in at GUARD. He worked his *** off all along the line. Not the 2nd best center but now the 2nd best guard. He will continue to be moved around throughout his career. I honestly think, what I thought with his offer, this kid was a statement.

When we got him I thought he was the one recruit, in year 1, that BK said to himself. "I will take this nobody from Florida, a 3 star at best and make him a competitor."

Year 2, NEXT MAN IN!!!

Heggie, all my respect goes to you for what you have achieved without, realy, the field. You have much time left and I am damn sure you will earn that field! Good luck the rest of the way.

I propose that next season when a ND player performs an act of awesomeness on the field (Cierre hurdling that Purdue player, a ND player trucking someone, one handed catch) that we refer to the victim of said awesome play as being "Heggie'd"

Example: "did you see that juke Theo put on that dude??"
"yep, that fool got Heggie'd right out of his shoes."
