Not like we were going to use the scholarship except maybe to have a fourth kicker or punter on a full ride.

I hope you all eat crow. Work hard Heggie.

I hope I'm wrong as hell too. If we didn't take the full 25 this cycle and have a chance next year to only take 4 of 5 guys because this kid never works out...

I don't wanna think about it...

I hope he proves me wrong. But from never having an offer to getting one from ND on one day... it's just a bit shocking to me.

Looking at the scholarship count and seniors we will only have 13-16 scholllies available depending on who leaves early next year

I think had he played this year he would have done well and this might not even be a topic.
At this point he is a risk, but on the bright side a risk w/ a possible high reward as well...time will tell.

No.. not that. Looking at his offer list, Florida A&M and William and Mary didn't offer. It's way the hell out of left field. That's why I was scratching my head.
Yeah, BK should have contacted you prior to offering him a scholarship. I mean, with your vast knowledge on recruiting potential .... it's like 'shit dogg' what the hell was he thinking?!?

It's a legitimate concern. No need to go after someone. Based on his offers, if he proves to be a really good college player, he'd be the exception, not the rule.

That said, I sure hope he's the exception. So does Wabash.

Ease off of Florida A&M I graduated from there and we have the greatest band ever. We've been known to take players for a year or two until they are able to get in a d1 school

Its year 1 in a coaching change guys. I think BK is filling this out pretty darn good. But the results will be seen on the field.

Who knows? "Huggie" could be the next Connor Barwin.

P.S. yes I know its Heggie but don't you want a big ole DL named Huggie - just priceless.

That YouTube video is 3-1/2 minutes of interview about his recruitment, visit to ND, and plans for the future ... "I'll be hitting the weights". There is no game video included.

He's got 6 months before preseason camp. He's got some serious weight to pack on. He might see Special Teams work but I suspect right now he's headed for the scout team and a year with Longo before seeing the field.

Jeff Alm was a 6-6 232 freshman in '86 as a backup end in a 3-4 defense.
He was 6-6, 242 as a soph.
He became a starter in '88 at 6-7 248.
He bulked up to 270 as a senior.
He lettered all 4 years.

Justin Tuck was 6-5 215 as a freshman LB. He didn't see any action.
As a soph he played at 238.

Rivals has an article on Heggie. Turns out, he's pissed. He didn't like all the forum chatter about him, and he did something about it. I like a kid that gets mad rather than discouraged.

To quote HL Mencken:

"Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats."

"My dad was mad," Heggie said. "He had me read some of the stuff just to get my fuse lit. Again, what can you do about it? People are gonna talk but I'm gonna shut them up when I get there." ...

All told, Heggie has spent three or four hours five days a week on conditioning and weight training. Right after signing day he dropped about 10 pounds and has since put muscle back on to arrive back at 240 pounds. ...

"As far as proving, I feel like I need to prove myself and play hard for the coaches that trusted me," Heggie said. "I know there was a lot of people that had a lot of negatives to say about Notre Dame putting out an offer to somebody that nobody knew but a lot of those people never even played a down of football in their life. I think the coaches would know better than them what they're doing.

That's some of the attitude that we need to bring back the FIghting Irish of old.

I believe it when I see it.. The funny thing is, I never said a thing in these forums. If his dad was reading the espn board than he should take it with a grain of salt.

If it were your son, and you saw some slobs on forums making unsubstantiated criticisms of your kid, I'm sure you'd be mad too.

Many people are more courageous sitting behind their keyboard as well. I'll admit, I scratched my head at the offer. I do trust in the coaches though. So, I hope to hell he comes in a proves all doubters wrong. Until then, I remain on the fence. Just honest.

Actually no.. It's the internet, it's known for slandering the anonymous.

Just because it's 'known' to do that, doesn't mean it wouldn't piss you off. It's human nature to get defensive people take shots at your flesh and blood while sitting behind a keyboard, anonymously. While it would be smarter to avoid the Internet altogether when reading about his son, the fact is that he read it, and got pissed. When it comes to your own kids, I can't mad at a dad for getting pissed...

If I were his father, I'd be pissed, too. But I love the kid's reaction. I hope it pays off for him down the road.

If it were my kid I'd take him outside and have him tackling trees and pulling planes with shoulder straps

Has anyone seen his film? I haven't, and that's why I didn't like the offer. I knew nothing about his skills. Plus, if FAMU pulls your scholarship offer, that sends a warning to me.

i heard something years ago that went something like this:

75% of recruits are given scholarships to help develop the other 25%.

in ohio, high school football roster numbers are way down over the last couple decades. that is one of the hardest things to deal with at times...that when kids dont think they will be stars they will just quit.

in football you need bodies and if bruce never plays a down on saturdays doesnt mean he will have contributed zero to the program. that said, i hope he plays and shows everybody that hard work and doing it the "right way" still leads to success not the number of recruiting stars or hype you garner!
