'09 NJ RB Theo Riddick (Notre Dame Man)

Toma seemed much more confident in the slot then Riddick. This is almost like adding a solid RB recruit that we missed on outside of Mahone. It's not like he was a WR out of high school transitioning to RB and he seems much more comfortable back there.

I expect to see him play really well at RB in both the bowl and next season. He looks so comfortable back there. Some people were criticizing his lack of top end speed at Stanford. I trully believe he was still struggling with the hammy. It was really obvious on his one long play. He looked like he was laboring.

I will bet that he looks very different in the bowl game. He will be geeked to get several touches. Further, he is a good pass catcher out of the backfield.

i agree on the hammy issue. i was yelling at the tv about how fkn slow he was and then i realized the hammy was impacting his burst. theo is a talented young man and being back in a position where he's comfortable can only help him and his confidence. i expect we'll see the theo we all know and love.

another guy that should not have been playing as a true freshman...could have two more years rather than one.

Just an opinion but I thought he looked very comfortable in the backfield. Maybe a little more spring in his step, "give me the damn ball" kind of attitude.

I could see and sense that 3000 miles away over a small thin wire. Aunt Bea's pies do that to a man....

Jet sweeps and wheel routes please.

God yes on the wheel routes. Defenses nowadays seem to pay little attention to a RB coming out of the backfield like that. Riddick had two HUGE wide open catches against Stanford.

Wondering if these mean Atkinson will be playing receiver.

I think they still like Atkinson at RB. Riddick only has one more year. Moving Riddick back to RB allows there to be depth, while Kelly recruits more RB's. It also helps bring Atkinson along slowly rather than throwing him into the fire (not that he couldn't handle it). That is my guess anyways. No concrete evidence.

I'd love to see more multiple RB sets with Hendrix or Golson at QB and any two of Cierre/Riddick/Atkinson in the backfield.

As noticed in the spring game, Riddick sure hit the weights hard this winter...

I've been telling people that from a physical standpoint, Riddick is ridiculous. He looked extremely athletic just doing warm up stretches during spring practices. He's going to be very good this year.

With all the praise that he has been getting this offseason, does anyone care to make a comparison to another CFB player, past or present?

A slightly less electric LaMichael James?

Not even close to James, two different styles. And James is MUCH faster.

One of the top running backs in Pac-10/12 history on a dominant, record-setting Oregon team...versus an also-ran player on 3 mediocre ND teams.

A fine comparison indeed.

Ok, so I didn't really pay attention to the comparison. Just trying to get the ball rolling.

James was incredible. Theo, not so much.

Still waiting to see if Theo Riddick can make a consistent and sustained contribution to our offense over the course of an entire season.

lot of hype surrounding him these last coule years...but lets see some PRODUCTION.

(i still think he should have never been moved to WR but thats just me what do i know)

i've said it before and i'll say it again--Riddick, however fun to watch and hope for, is a failed Golden Tate project. i think he can add a layer to the offense, whether out of backfield or jet sweeps from slot, or even a few catches. but he has never dominated a game, outside MSU two years ago. and because of that, he doesnt quite provide a key for the defense.
i think he will average 6-8 touches out of the backfield and probably 2-4 looks out of the slot, early in the year. Devonte is simply the player we need there with a very able bodied Toma as backup. And i dont know if you guys have heard but Toma really is quicker than fast.
Riddick most simply is a good problem for the coaches to have.

I've noticed the staff has told multiple recruits to watch Theo Riddick this year, even ones that aren't RB hybrids. Expecting big things from him.

... I don't like this "hype", it bothers me. He was so hyped up last year and then USF happened. Let's let the kid play and let him show us what he's got.

Hype is fine. He's back home at RB, and he's going to be able to flex out into the slot. I would say it's more of a specialized role player that can fit what a lot of recruits are looking for.
