This kid is deserving of the love and attention we were showing "he who shall not be named".

Amen Brotha!!!

We tend to forget about the class guys that we have already and the kids that are sure they want to be here.

Here is a true Notre Dame kid. I'm sure he will be a fine player and intime we will forget the other DT that doesn't know the importance of keeping your word.

"I asked Newman if other schools were continuing to recruit him. He committed to Notre Dame last spring and has stuck with that decision.

Newman said UK coach Rich Brooks was at PRP recently but that he wouldn't meet with the coach because "I know I made the right decision."

That's a bigger statement than you realize. Coach Brooks coaches at the school he cheered for - UK. His best friend plays for Brooks at UK. UK was 1st to offer a scholarship, in his Jr year. Players look at Brooks like a father figure, and Brandon respects him greatly. I honestly would have had zero worries even if he had met with coach Brooks.

However, Brandon showed his repsect in the ultimate way toward ND. I wish all recruits, at EVERY school, got IT like this kid does.

Jody Demling - Recruiting

Newman late to his signing because he was taking a test.

Best part of article:
"Some people say (signing is) a weight off their shoulders but I think I have been a part of Notre Dame for a long time now and I'm just so excited about going there," he said. "I plan on working hard and if I don't play a lot my freshman year then that's something that's my fault. I have the work ethic where I planned on playing no matter where I was going. I am going to try and be the best I can possible be at my position."

Exactly...I was looking through old recruiting threads and found Newman's.

I didn't think he would be a start at ND, but I thought he would be a contributer. It looks likely he will end up his career only playing in mop up time.

But from videos and what I have read Newman is a great person, smart, funny and the team loves him.

Yes. He's apparently a likable class clown. His sociology class "presentation" with Mike Golic was totally over-the-top.

Good for him, hope it works out well.

Does this move make room for Big Lou on the our team our story?

No dorm for me. lol If Brandon wants to live an apartment with me though, I'd be flattered! (Especially cause he'd probably have to pay my rent! hahaha)

Interesting piece. I believe that Brandon answers all his own questions, if he just listens closely to himself. Being a "gamer" will not get it a Notre Dame. This was exactly Carlo Calabreese's problem initially, and, in my opinion, he would have never gotten on the field [ahead of McDonald] if Anthony hadn't been injured.

Apparently it was Walker's problem too. People like Big Lou have chided Davaris not to be the same guy. How would Brandon expect to play ahead of Ian Williams, Sean Cwynar, Big Lou, Kona, even Hafis [another hard-working "pro"] if he's a medium-effort practice "gamer"? I VERY much admire that the staff doesn't elevate "gamers" just on the potential of the eyeball test.

Best wishes to Brandon... maybe he's finally gotten it.

Interesting piece from Muncie newspaper on Newman. Slight jab at the coaches but that is to be expected when you only play in two games your whole career. You are going to be frustrated.

Former Notre Dame player enjoying his time at Ball State - News-Sentinel.com

Fort Wayne paper, but still a good read. Ball state should be a much improved team this year without Brandon, but with him they should be even better. They can really use someone of his caliber and experience this year to help shore up some of the departures along the DL this year. This will be my third year at BSU and i can honestly say that this is the first time I will actually be excited to see a Ball State football game

Good kid, hope he gets a dozen sacks and an internship with Letterman.

Not sure how you call yourself a gamer when you haven't played in one for four years? If we could blow some people out, more kids like this could get a taste of game time and maybe help light that practice fire. I am a little conflicted in thinking if a kid can be the best on Saturday I don't really care how he does in practice, but I know that is overly simplistic.

ah you missed it, I was there for the 12-0 season with Nate Davis. Ball State has always had some pretty good athletes, but their work ethic is not very good, hopefully the new coaching staff can work on that... They surprised me with 6 wins last year, that is for sure. With a returning starter at QB, they should be pretty decent in the MAC.

Ummm, say what?

Ummm, say what?

... He had spent the past four seasons working among future NFL players, and he wasn't quite sure what to expect from the Cardinal players and coaches.

How is Newman a senior? Didn't he graduate ND?
