Click on Notre Dame Football Recruiting to here a great interview with Brandon.

I hope everyone has a chance to listen to his interview. What a solid find for ND. Seems to have great character and is Blue and Gold through and through. What impresses me the most is how mature and well spoken he is. He cares more about his 4 year degree at Notre Dame than anything.

My impressions of the Newman interview:

1) I think in the past months we and others (for good reason) focused so much attention on Omar that Newman and Hafis were overlooked. Now we see that Newman is the focus at DT coming in with this class. I was very impressed with his interview.

2) This is the first interview I'd seen of him. I knew he liked ND and I also know he was still being recruited by other schools (esp.Kentucky) after committing to ND. I was really encouraged hearing what he had to say.

3) I love the fact that he has ND shaved in the back of his head and is getting a ND tattoo.

4) I love how he is a jokester and said Goodman is the funniest looking ND recruit.

5) I love how he is no joke on the field and is blowing up every O lineman they put in front of him.

6) It was music to my ears hearing what he said about people transferring and decommitting from ND

I feel bad for not giving this kid enough attention that he deserves in the past months due to Omar, but thrilled with his enthusiasm for ND and his overall personality. He has a very bright future at ND.

When someone asked Mike Farrell of rivals who was the most supprising players at the bowl his immediate response was Newman

If Meyer or Mattison went to the game Saturday and tried to poach Newman I think he'd either laugh and walk away so they could see the ND on the back of his head, or he would just spear em out of disgust. I prefer the latter

I told Dayne I was going to get him Saturday, and he said you know if you sack me coach Weis is gonna pull your scholarship lol. He seems like an awesome kid, I'm glad we got him.

Spear him first, then a head-butt Urbie w/ the back of his head to see if the ND logo would imprint on the dickhead's forehead!

So many choices...wishful thinking.

I hope someone gets a group pic of all the ND guys (especially after the game if GRob commits) at the AA game together. I saw one of Rivals yesterday of 4 or 5 guys but a picture including all 15 would be sweet.

I think I read something yesterday on Rivals that the number of ND commits playing in the AA game is record breaking. Anyone else see that?

Yup. Read that in the article about Cwynar and TRob. Awesome. This class can really lead ND down the path to being mentioned in the same breath as Florida, USC, Texas, LSU, etc.

Does Hafis Williams even exist ? I haven't seen any video highlights of him.

Seeing that Newman spot on Rivals jacks me up. I can't wait for this class to come in and contribute. If there really is any validity to the perceived backlash of so many Irish recruits in these All-star games, this class should take on a moniker like 'The Misfits' (a la the Red Sox 'Idiots' of '04), and wear that chip on their shoulder until we're raising that crystal football.

9/6/08 is the awakening....

I can't wait to see Newman play today. He got the start over Deangelo Tyson a 5*. Currently, Brandon is our lowest rated recruit as a 3* with a 5.6 RR. The Rivals guys should get with Weis next time they rate a player.

hey, as long as that kept him under the radar so he doesn't get Poodled or Urbanized, i'm okay with 3*. From all appearances he will be a very good addition to the middle DL.

Was impressive in practice, but not the game

His game isn't making alot of tackles, rather clogging up the middle and I though he held his ground well in the game. I seen somewhere he was compared to Jerry Ball. I liked that comparison.

I totally agree. ND needs a "wall" in the middle of the line to slow the straight forward rush. The defensive speed and athleticism @ DE and LB is greatly improving to take away the corners! With guys like Ian, Hafis and Brandon clogging the middle, I think that they'll get this accomplished!

Jody Demling - Recruiting
By the way, I meant to post an update on Pleasure Ridge Park defensive lineman Brandon Newman earlier in the week but I forgot.

I saw Brandon at the first round of the LIT and had a chance to speak with him.

Newman said he had a blast at the recent U.S. Army All-American Bowl and after a bit at the event he knew that he "belonged there" with the other top players.

I asked Newman if other schools were continuing to recruit him. He committed to Notre Dame last spring and has stuck with that decision.

Newman said UK coach Rich Brooks was at PRP recently but that he wouldn't meet with the coach because "I know I made the right decision."

He'll sign with the Fighting Irish on Feb. 6.
