  • You guys are just getting greedy anyways! Talked to some of my wife's family there after the Iron Bowl, they are Bama natives but live in Thomasville in Southern GA these days. Happy with the win they were! :D
    Let me see:

    1. Machovic
    2. John Robinson
    3. Blake
    4. Charlie Pell
    5. Dinardo
    6. DuBose, Franchione, Price(if he counts) and Shula
    7. Gibbs, H. Schellenberger, Blake
    8. Akers, McWilliams, Machovic

Had to think a while on a few of them. And still may be off on OU and Texas a little bit.

But yeah... I get your point. All to easy for us to forget that there were guys there before that had a large part in the program. Some better parts than others, but still deserve some acknowlegment. I don't know how long my Tide run will go... gotta stop sometime. That's why I try to appreciate it in the now. It won't be long before we are just another team.
Gotcha. To show how all teams' success comes & goes in cycles, I ask the following questions of people who follow CFB:

Who coached Texas before Mack Brown?
Who coached SCum before Pete Carroll?
Who coached OU before Bob Stoops?
    Who coached UF before Spurrier?
Who coached LSU before Nick Saban?
Name every coach at Alabama between the Stallings & Saban eras.
Name every coach at OU between the Switzer & Stoops eras.
Name every coach at Texas between the Royal & Mack eras.

I've yet to have anyone be able to correctly answer even half of those queries. The point is not to embarrass people on their lack of CFB knowledge....the point is to remind folks that EVERY program goes through down periods but we all quickly forget that once a program regains their success.
u bet Tommy. So i'm not on here as much as I would like but are you a Bama fan first (not that their's anything wrong w/ that). If so, what attracted you to an ND message board? I have to think there are tons of Bama boards that would take all your time but I'm glad you're on this board. When I was on a different message board it incl a lifelong ND fan who then enrolled at Bama. It didn't take long before he dropped off the radar but he did pop in to say 'hi' in 2012 when the two faced each other. He acknowledged that he was now a Bama fan first but still held a place for ND. His board name was a gaelic name that I can't recall....you may be him for all I know! Anyway, glad you're here.
No no I mean the favorites for the National Championship. Obviously they should be big favs this weekend. They are sitting 7/2 right now ahead of Oregon at 4/1
Don't scare me like that. What are your thoughts on the Tide being the Vegas favorites right now?

Btw, at trivia tonight a bonus question was what is the name of y'alls elephant. Big Al?
No problem. I may not be a southerner by birth but I lived there for 8 years so it irks me to see crap like that.
Maybe I should change that since the mods can read them. Remember... Big Bro is watching your every move.
I noticed that comment too... I don't remember being able to read reps but that's some big brother shit fosho right there... ;)
I don't really know why they would be that upset at their #10 ranking. They don't have a win against a top 25 team and every team they have a win against has at least 3-5 losses. Not their fault that the teams they have played thus far are not very good, so I guess they have to take their anger out at someone. If our Irish friends removed their own "bias" they would probably realize that they would be underdogs on neutral sites to Miss St, Ole Miss, Bama, Auburn, and Ga and would be even against LSU.
Good grief at these guys! Everything is a conspiracy against them and to help the "completely overrated SEC and their illusion of greatness." Do they really believe all this? Have they forgotten what SEC teams have done to the best of the best from the other 113 non-SEC teams in NC games? Do they think that 35-0 until we called off the dogs and starting putting in the subs against them 2 years ago was all ESPN hype and "typical SEC spin cuz they haven't played anybody?" I thought barners were conspiracy nuts, delusional, and insecure, but these dudes could give lessons to the aubs.
For those kind words, I'll even root for Bama against those ratched Aggies tomorrow! Go Irish!
Thanks bro! Yeah it would be huge if they can take em down. It would also help your boys out as well. Most importantly though, I think it would open some eyes down there in Tallahassee that there are more important things in life besides football.
Doubtful that anything really changes. The fanbase and university are far too disillusioned for anything meaningful to happen.
