The custom suits and designer sunglasses captured by ESPN and NBC cameras when Freeman enters the stadium on game day. It’s always juxtaposed with what’s being worn on the other sideline. There’s a reason why Freeman has already been featured in Esquire and GQ.

The schedule is what it is, IU played a light schedule the last two years. PSU rode a comical schedule (including in the playoffs) to being a play or two away from the NCG two years ago. Miami had one tough game in the regular season last year (and still lost two games), and did fine in the playoffs. Miami has one tough game again this year come to think of it.

Besides, nothing we do will ever be enough. We play Schrodinger's Tough Game: when we win the team was overrated, when we lose it's proof we can't hang with the big boys. Before the Sugar Bowl two years ago everyone was picking UGA. I saw SEC homers talking about how UGA would kill us, it didn't matter Beck was hurt, Stockton was even better than him. During the game after the kick return TD, the retconning began. Now I have to deal with people who said we didn't beat any "real" teams during the playoff run.

There are only six or seven teams outside the SEC you get any national credit for beating. The top three, maybe four, in the Big Ten. Miami. Whoever wins the Big 12. That's about it. You can beat ranked BYU, SMU, USC, Navy. No one cares. They all suck.
And then any SEC team that gets bowl-eligible. You beat South Carolina and Missouri and they pretty much hand you a playoff spot.
I don't make the rules.

National media and fans of OSU and IU believe USC is a tough game on their schedules. The team we’ve gotten zero credit for dominating the last decade?! Hilarious how the script flips when it’s a “conference game.”

I wouldn’t even go that far. If we had beaten Miami last year, it would have been viewed as a decent win over a top 20 ACC 9-3 team. Big 12 champ would be ok, but nobody would be that impressed by a win over a 10-2 TT or BYU. OSU is about the only team outside the SEC that could absorb a loss to ND and 1 or 2 other games and be viewed as a Big Win. Maybe IU or Michigan if they are 10-2 and at least make the Big 10 championship game.

That's why ND fans pointing out how ass Miami or Indiana's schedules are or were are shouting into a void. Being a fan of a team in a conference means basically being in this cult where "conference wins" are these magical entities imbued with upmost importance and being. If you beat USC in conference play, well that is a feather in your cap. If you beat USC in OOC play, that is good enough. If you happen to not be in a conference and beat USC, well who fuckin' cares? Play "real teams."

ND could beat every top 10 team on the way to a NC and you'll still have people criticizing the schedule.

So you beat the #1 team. This was a down year for every team.
So you beat the #2 team. They just had a bad day.
So you beat the #3 team. They would have won if the refs didn't screw them.
So you beat the #4 team. They had several starters injured.
So you beat the #5 team. Their QB was suffering from a sore throat.
So you beat the #6 team. Their coach is terrible.
So you beat the #7 team. If they had converted that 4th & 15, they would have won.
So you beat the #8 team. They had just played a tough game the week before.
So you beat the #9 team. They were overrated.
So you beat the #10 team. Their mascot is the worst.
