I just don’t see it. Like at all. The 5 above besides Cheeks are replacing 5 guys who signed as UDFAs after the season. It would be shocking if this is even a top 5 DL on our schedule.

Tommy Rees was pretty widely regarded as a pre-snap genius (which he had to be b/c he didn't really have the physical tools once the play actually started).

Idk about other folks, but I'm hesitant to anoint CJ as Heisman caliber because of the WR group. I have a lot of questions about that group. Does Faison take the next step? Can Greathouse stay healthy and if so, what level will his play be? Is the Graham hype for real? Is Gilbert actually good or is he the 3rd or 4th WR by default? Does Porter even play and if so, what level will his play be?

I think not getting Marsh or another solid WR with proven production could hurt this team. I really hope the WR group surprises a lot of people.

CJ is dedicated to greatness and loves football/Notre Dame. A lot of qbs are good with making a lot of money and view it as a job. The greats want more. There is a reason Brady has 7 rings. CJ's film study, work ethic, and attention to detail are excellent.

It's a weird pendulum where I felt like he was underrated last year and now I think he is overhyped based on projected team success lol

Like I would have Dante Moore, Mensah, and Chambliss over him in Heisman odds just based on how those teams are likely to stat pad.

Hindsight says ND should've been 4-0. Hubris to not take a QB transfer year one. Asinine game plan in Miami last year. Just my opinion. Ash played a weird style of defense the first 2.5 games before they finally adjusted. And I think Denbrock protected CJ too much and went away from Love too soon.

With that said, I agree....stop scheduling these ridiculous games right out of the gate. It's a recipe for disaster as ND and Texas found out the hard way last year. Win, and everything is hunky dory. But why take such a huge risk? Play Rice and knock the rust off. Then week 2, get after it.

Agree - this was the most surprising part of my review of them. Their DL might be bottom 5 in the B10. Incredible with how far into Fickell’s tenure we are. I don't really see them being as good in general on defence as the last half of last year.
