4 prime time night games is so so sick. Other schools would kill for this.

Probably 5 with BYU too. And already 7 confirmed national broadcast, BYU and Navy almost certainly make 9. Leaves Syracuse, UNC and Purdue as only games who might not be Fox/CBS/NBC/ABC. Purdue games for whatever reason gets CBS a lot of times. Would expect one of those ACC games at least get a Noon ABC slot.

24 team playoff is coming. This is silly.

I ordinarily would agree but with the way the top conference teams are avoiding adding tough OoC games to their schedules and kind of leaving ND with weak schedules in certain years, and assuming that's not gonna change, then a 24-team playoff provides an opportunity to separate the top teams from the pretenders, and will provide nothing but (mostly) exciting games.

The conference commissioners should just mandate that every P4 team schedule enough P4/ND OoC games which would render a larger playoff field unnecessary, but sadly, it looks like that's not gonna happen.

A change to a 24-team CFP format will look and act more like the NFL where an 8-4 or 9-3 team could peak at the end of the season and win the whole thing despite a mediocre "regular season."

Disgusting, Michigan will pretty much always get in unless they are legitimately awful.

In regard to the play-offs, if I had a dollar for every time I said this would happen and was immediately dismissed over the years, I could simply give the powers that be a huge payoff to stop it from happening at this point.

Behaving like NFL Lite is going to make the product NFL Lite.

Zero excellence required. Every P4 with something resembling a pulse is going to get in.

While I think 16 would be the sweet spot, I am for whichever system removes Conference championship games and never allows what happened to ND last year, happen again. If ND wants to continue to feed the NIL beast, they also need to be basically guaranteed a playoff spot to keep the money flowing. I think it is going to be very interesting to see what kind of numbers are thrown around when the TV deals go up for renegotiation in a few years. I expect Bevacqua to do well in that regard to put us in an advantageous position. Donor money is important but the TV money is key IMO.

ND would have been in last year and legit could have won it all under that system.

We'd be sitting on a Natty rn.

Florida State-Georgia series cancellation is ominous sign for future of college football

It almost sounds like a chicken and egg thing... Not sure which was the initial driving force, expanding top P4 conferences, or the push to bigger and more CFP fields and games, but either way, as I stated last week, it looks like CFB is going to become more NFL-ish where traditional rivalry or any top teams match ups that are now OoC will quickly go away and the 24-team field is where all the interesting action of top OoC teams playing each other will happen... Maybe with an expanded field of 24 teams, they can at least then have more home team playoff games in the first two rounds before the final 8 teams play in bowl sites.

Hopefully, this trend won't severely handicap ND from scheduling top p4 OoC matchups... Presumably, with every P4 team needing to schedule at least one tough OoC matchup and now with the field being 24 teams, with proper lead time and effort, ND will have no problem scheduling at least a few top matchups annually.

From the article:

These new schedule mandates, playing nine conference games like teams in the Big Ten or the former Pac-12 did for years, as well as the expanded playoff, now mean that schools are looking for ways to minimize their downside. Instead of prioritizing the upside and providing a better and more meaningful experience for fans.

It’s been that way for quite some time, unfortunately. But this new era of super conferences and bigger postseason tournaments is only making it worse. Most fans would almost certainly prefer to play these big games in a home-home format, even if it means an extra loss. Most schools now don’t seem to care.

The 2022 game was make a wish QB (Drew Pyne) throw ball to Michael Mayer. ND win game. I’m not sure how great the rivalry would be over time.

It would eventually just be another thing held against us. “They schedule easy big 12 teams instead of the Big Ten”

Comparable to if OSU suddenly played Iowa annually. Like it’s fun in May to say, maybe Iowa gets them this year but…c’mon in the end.

At 11 now for 2027. We pretty desperately need a ranked opponent in that last spot. None of Clemson, BYU, VT, Auburn, MSU are close to a sure thing to be top 25 IMO.

Wouldnt be surprised that its announced following the 24 team field being finalized.

IDK. Drilling BYU repeatedly would shut an exceedingly passive-aggressive asshole fanbase up for once. That might make it somewhat worthwhile.
I get this argument and want to annihilate them out of spite. But this "rivalry" does nothing for me. They're simply not our level, and we SHOULD beat them. Plus, the state of Utah is not exactly a recruiting hotbed.

All of this is what I have been afraid of for years. Here we are...

FB Schedules added Duke as the 12th oppoment. They didn't cite anything as to why/when/how Duke was added. The 2027 schedule looks just as bad as this year's, if not worse, because there isn't a top team like Miami. I can't believe Bevaqua is adding teams like Rice and Kent State when we so obviously needed another marquee opponent in both 2026 and 2027.
