Tennessee in front. ND in the 2nd group with a few other schools. No more visits planned as of now.

Could have. Not overly concerned though.

He's in-state, and the summer circuits haven't started yet.

Freebie from Scout - no mention of ND
Scout.com: Latham is two sport star

Volnation board stated the Tennessee rivals guy Fortenberry thinks it will come down to Tennessee, Florida and Notre Dame.

At 6-foot-5 and 285 pounds, Darius Latham knows his role on the basketball floor, and that is to bring a football mentality and make things difficult on opposing centers.

“I think I have been playing pretty decent,” said Latham. “We have a good team and we have been playing pretty good. My job is to guard the better big guys and to use my strength and rebound. Scoring wise I hit jumpers and things like that.”

Finding the balance between football and basketball work can be tough for Latham, but he says right now he has it fairly figured out.

“The month of June we have off from AAU, so that is when I will do the majority of my football thing,” said Latham. “It works out pretty decent for me. During the month of July it is real hectic with basketball.”

With feet that allow him to excel on the basketball court combined with great strength and size, it is no surprise that football teams are all about Latham, and the offers keep rolling in.

“Basketball keeps me in shape,” said Latham. “I feel like if I wasn’t playing basketball I wouldn’t be as good in football.”

When it comes to recruiting, another SEC school was the latest to join his offer list.

“Recently I got an offer from Arkansas,” noted Latham. “I have still been talking to Tennessee, Florida, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and a lot of college coaches.”

Latham lives only a few hours from the Ohio State campus, and said the coaches have indicated to him there is still a little bit of room left at his position.

“The last time I talked to Coach (Mike) Vrabel he told me that they had one more spot for my position,” said Latham. “I know they have a great program and they are a great team. One negative though is they don’t offer my major, so that is something I have to look at.”

About his most recent offer from Arkansas, Latham said, “It is another good school that offered. I mean I know they have a real good team and it is something I will look at.”

For now Latham is being patient within the process. No visits are scheduled, and with a very busy July coming up in which he will travel to Milwaukee and Las Vegas for hoops, Latham says no timeline is being put in place.

For now Latham is just doing all of the research he can on the schools after him, and is looking at where he will fit in best.

“I am just looking for where I fit in, a place where I can get into the rotation early and play, and a school with my major which is sports management,” said Latham.

Well if I had to choose 1 guy from the state of IN this year, no brainer. I would have loved to add Daniel and Latham though.

I would like to get Latham for the DT in this class. We dont really have any DT targets left do we? I just wonder if Latham wants to play DT or OT.

It was being reported earlier in the thread that we initially were recruiting him as OL but he wanted to play DL. When we switched to recruiting him as a DL prospect his interest in us supposedly increased. I don't know if this is still true or not.

He is another guy that I feel is really sitting back and waiting, anyways.

interesting, thanks for the replies, for some reason, I thought it was the other way around. I think Latham at DT falls into my ideal recruiting haul for the 2013 class.

i'm surprised wisconsin doesn't get more top tier linemen.

Yeah, and this is a particualarly tallented midwest class. That is because of the giant sucking sound centered around South Bend, IN. as we for once drew our fair share of the top tallent.

they still develop their OL very well, they must have had a good OL coach.

FIFY

The Badgers just lost Chryst (OC) and Bostad (OL). I'm sure they'll continue to be successful running the ball, but there's bound to be some drop off in their ability to produce freakish OL.

D@mmit!!! We need a DT!!! I was hoping for someone like Latham. If this keeps going on, and, say we get three DEs instead, then it might mean future DT work for Day and Jones, and Okwara going down from CAT to DE. Flexibility is nice, but everytime you have to "flex" it means that you're are one step less able to flex in the same direction. Building balance from the get-go is better. C'mon, Diaco!! Get us a DT --- he'd certainly be set up to play a lot.

Why do we need a defensive tackle? I am not trying to be a smart @ss, but we run a 3-4 with a hybrid 4 man front. We need a nose tackle of guard, which is a different animal, and 3-4 defensive ends. And great Outside Linebackers, oh, we are getting those.

I certainly can see getting another big man, but he could be more Lawson like that even Latham like. Latham is a great DT for a four man front. One of the first guys I would want in a 4-3.

When there is no Louis Nix out there, and there rarely is, we do well to get several "Latham's" [or "Augusta's"] and rotate them into the NT position keeping fresh hyper-athletic Manimals chewing away at the will power of opponent O-Lines. You get the best you can. If the theoretical "fit" isn't perfect, you count on coaching, great heart, and depth. But you have to have SOMEBODY. Plus we slide our CAT down a lot and present apparent 4-3 arrays anyway. This is also why our Will needs to look somewhat like a Dog, and vice versa.

Also, its good to have a replacement for when Nix leaves. Springmann has not proven himself yet, I would like to have 2 options after Nix. Also, it adds depth which is what top defenses like Alabama have. I think we are pretty solid on DE right now if we end up signing Rochell (who is a stud himself). I would like to have a NT for this class, especially since we didnt get a true NT in the 2012 class. I guess Day could be considered a hybrid, but I think he is more effective at DE.

Josh Augusta, come on down!

I have a feeling that Day is going to end up at NT when it's all over.

I doubt it. He's an explosive pass rusher, and from the looks of his frame, he may be pretty well filled out already.

None of us foresaw Schwenke and Springmann at NT, and yet there they are. The importance of and body type necessary to play Diaco's NT is a mystery.
