If we don't impress him like the Gators did then he will commit to Florida.

Per 247.

So our staff is left with an A and B scenario. Option A is pull out all of the stops and try to secure a commit before he steps off campus. Option B is let him commit to Florida. There is no "slow play."

would we take him as the 5th OL prospect with a few big names still on the board?

Dorian Johnson comes to mind and is a flat out stud so I would've thought he could claim the 5th spot if anyone. That said, Montelus looks like a man built to play guard, and with all 4 OL commits able to play OT, we may be looking for someone to lock down the interior.

Pocic would be another big name. But like reslife said, Montelus looks more like he would line up at guard as opposed to tackle like the other guys we have and like pocic and johnson.

Tunsil, Johnson, Pocic, Gray, and Cochran are all high rated OTs BUT list ND as COOL on 247.

Latham has ND in his Top 5 with UF, OSU, UTN, WIS. As a swing OT/DT he might have added versatility value but his IE Recruit Profile hasn't had an entry in almost a month so how much mutual interest is there if his IE Recruit Profile is dormant.

Montelus or wait 9 months and see how things play out on the field, in the classroom, etc.

Besides if Montelus commits Sunday morning the bleeders will be out on the ledge by Sunday night in anticipation.

Has arrived for visit.

Just to clarify his travel, he flew to Florida on Wednesday, flew back home yesterday and then hopped in a car to drive to ND.

Early report from Sapp says the staff really likes how he looks in person and he is enjoying it.

He also mentioned that he heard that part of the reason UF is his leader is because he wasn't sure how interested ND really was in him.

Shaping up well.

I'm not opposed to bringing in 6 OL this year.

I am, 6 is too much for one position. We dont get 33 recruits each class. We have 25 open schollies next year (including 5th years) and we need plenty of positions to fill. We dont have one LB... YET in this class, we need quite a few more positions and taking 6 OL will only take 1 away from another position.

What big names would you be a referrin too? Cause I gotta be honest.....I'm drawing a blank.

Tunsil, Johnson, Pocic, Gray, and Cochran are all high rated OTs BUT list ND as COOL on 247.

One position?

It's between three and five positions, depending on how you look at it.

You don't think that the staff has put in countless hours thinking about what you just typed? Stuff like that doesn't slip their minds.

I understand there are higher rated OL prospects....I was speaking more of the kids that we have a legitimate shot with. Tunsil isn't leaving the south. I don't see Cochran or Pocic wearing the Blue and Gold, and I'm not really to sure who Gray is.

I thought I was responding to Res Life Hero and PeoriaIrish in context. To borrow a quote:

I don't think ND had much of a shot with those guys at this time either. But rather that just post an empty statement I went and looked up the BIG NAMES at OT with ND offers to comfirm their status. I also discussed Latham OT/DT and Montelus OG.

What names, big or little do, you think ND has a legitmate shot with?

Or are we supposed to keep guessing.

Sorry BGIF, it wasn't directed at you as much as I was using your names provided as high ranked OL prospects whom I didn't think we had a shot at. Dorian Johnson and John Montelus were the only two I think we had a good chance with, but with us apparently turning Johnson away, I wasn't sure who NDHOOSIER was thinking about.

This. And even within those 3-5 positions, they're arguably the most important on not just offense, but the entire team. Load up.

Sure, 6 OL sounds nice. But you run the risk of roster imbalance when you start taking more guys at a position than you can even play in a game. This isn't WR where you may line up 2-5 guys on any given play. It's pretty much 5 guys, period. It also isn't a position, where once the guys are in the game, they really sub out. Then add in the problems it can cause next year (and subsequent years) with recruiting. How many top OL guys are going to be interested in ND next year knowing they just took 6. And it's not like there's a huge number crunch at the OL position to mitigate why the staff should load up on them this year. Taking 4, 5 max OL is fine for this coming year.

If you look back in the whos likely next thread i said Montelus about two weeks ago. So if i am right again i want a contract raise otherwise i might pull a Van Pelt and leave for ND Nation.

Remember a week ago when you said Huerman was an OSU lock? You don't get a raise for batting .500 ;)
