He owes Gunner a public apology. That's completely uncalled for and unprofessional. The university should step in if he won't.

He won't. That was not an "off the cuff" line. It was planned and delivered. Best thing that can happen here is Gunner shuts him up.

No, he doesn't.

Coaches are allowed to express frustration as they manage multimillion "franchises," and their success is tied to an 18 year old who changes his mind every 10 seconds.

Gunner's flip prevented another EE from joining LSU. He has a right to be angry. Do you think Kelly's "4 games vs. 4 years" comment was inappropriate?

Terry,

I don't think that BK's comment was at all inappropriate.
A) He was talking football,
B) He was being instructive,
C) He was trying to show how actions predict performance,
D) He didn't pander to the audience,
E) Kelly and Miles have nothing in common, especially class and decorum,
F) Kelly never got personal with turning a figurative trait into a physical trait, like "you limp-dicked SOB; which is how everyone I spoke to took Miles.

Express your frustration privately, don't go out in front of the student body and publicly ridicule a kid for wanting to stay closer to his family. What he did was unbecoming of someone who heads the college football program of a major university and I can not believe you'd even attempt to defend it.

Kelly shouldn't have made any comment, though I think his came within the course of an interview, it wasn't a prepared remark like in the case of Miles. Miles went out of his way to explicitly bring up Kiel. It also ignores the fact that Kiel and Greenberry handled their decommitments completely differently, and it also doesn't account for the fact that what Miles said was on its face 100x worse than what Kelly did. Greenberry had also been committed to Notre Dame for the better part of a year, Kiel had been committed to LSU for the better part of two weeks.

getting a lot of hits on twitter around the college football world, not just Notre Dame related guys. I haven't seen Kelly's comment mentioned once other than ND guys.

Good to see that ESPN is actually reporting on this, not just sweeping it under the carpet.

I'm not saying I would have handled it like that. I'm saying that coaches are going to express their opinions. I don't think he should have attacked Kiel's character, but he was obviously going to address what happened. Kiel messed with their recruiting numbers by switching at the last minute. Kelly may be classier, but I would call "play against him for 4 games instead of with him for 4 years" is a similar, yet more subtle, criticism of a recruit's character. Did Miles act like a brat? Sure. Is it wrong that he was mad? No.

I wouldn't say DGB & Kiel handled their decommitments differently either. They both switched on the last day.

The "4 games vs. 4 years" was a prepared remark. He knew he was going to be asked the question. He just had a classier response.

If I remember, Kiel called and spoke with his recruiter at LSU through the process. He handled it just like someone that wanted to make sure he had a spot before he jumped would. (Kind of the difference between running to and running away . . .)

I'm sure Gunner has more leadership qualities at this point in his life than all the LSU QBs combined.

Gunner doesn't fit in down in Louisiana anyway, He didn't beat up a United States Marine.

I feel like karma is going to place us in a bowl game with LSU next year. I feel like whenever there is a controversy like this, the teams meet shortly after.

I think Gunner's only proper response will be to beat LSU in the National Championship game next January.

Your move, Gunner. Your move.

My girlfriend just let me know that. Fortunately or unfortunately for me she follows a lot of ND players via twitter. I think all that anyone needs to do to have a successful life is watch Rudy before they leave their house everyday.

He answers all the question just like a young man should. He was very respectful toward Miles comments when some people would open their mouths with out thinking.

Agreed. Good to know he has more class than a supposedly successful coach who is responsible for transitioning men from high school to the real world. Just another SEC dbag.
