#1 i could watch/listen to alford coach ALL day. love him.
#2 i like where this Hybrid experiment is going.
#3 GAIII is sick.
RB thoughts from today's practice:
My first post of the spring practice season and it was fun to watch and listen to Alford. Great coach and better communicator. Although, I am sure they told him to tone down the language as he is normally quite turse with the curse.
Theo Riddick - This dude is on a mission!! He looks fast and full of energy. Cierre better step it up or this dude be the starter.
GAIII - The guy looks solid after a year at ND. If he gets to the corner, IT IS OVER!! TD!!
Toma - The kid looks comfortable at RB. He will give us some options. He can run well.
Roberson - I purposefully looked to see if he was in pads and how he looked. He was in pads. Does have on knee brace. He has a little limp, but looked like he is healing. The most noticable thing is the dude is BIG. Given that he redshirted and could get a 6th year for medical with the knee. This kid could be our big back for the next couple years. I expect to see him play very limited this year and bust loose in 2013.
Overall, we have a nice group of backs even without our Carlisle. When you add Amir and Cam Roberson, we are deep at RB.
I agree with all this, although I think that Cierre is the clear starter.
I think you can see from this why Alford is also such a strong recruiter. He's just a natural leader/coach/instructor. Has the ability to relate and communicate with kids. To me, that makes him as invaluable as anyone on the staff. I remember a month ago when a select few were questioning Alford... I just can't imagine how or why.
I too love the hybrid experiment. It just allows for more weapons and versatility to see the field, thus creating more problems for the defense. Could you imagine a scenario where Riddick, Amir, and Cierre are all on the field at the same time and can rotate in and out of the backfield at will? And then combine that with Eifert and the rest of the TE's flexed wide or in formation, and the capabilities and playmaking of players like Daniels, Neal, Brown, Goodman, Toma, etc. Seriously?! I think that's one of the more underrated aspects of the ND offense. And all of that has come by design, with Kelly making it a priority to recruit size, skill, athleticism, and versatility at every position.
Yes, I know that it's only a spring video, and that things change when the people hitting you aren't on your team. But this ND team has too much skill not to succeed. I hope we find a way to get it all together.
