I think Nick Toon (Wisconsin WR) did this last year and they, the players, got off with having to sign a paper acknowledging that they now knew the rules. or something like that.
I think if you're a reporter and you feel you absolutely MUST address this, you should probably do so almost sheepishly, as if you're embarrassed to even have to do it but its a part of your job. I don't think he went out of his way to downplay the seriousness of what happened (at least not last night when he first "broke" it on twitter), which is almost required if you have any integrity and aren't just joyously muckraking.
His tone was that of a hall monitor reporting a kid for stopping at the water fountain when he was supposed to go directly back to class.
Thanks, phork.
Strange, I looked for something on it under new posts, looked in the recruiting forum, did a IE Search on Eifert, and then on Recruiting Violation, and found nothing on it.
Shame on me for not looking under "Brian Hamilton is a D-Bag".
In all fairness when I started the thread it was titled "ND Violation!?!?" but was changed to the current title. "Brian Hamilton is a D-Bag"
I changed it b/c I didn't want people being startled by a non-(real)violation started by a true D-Bag (I use that word only for the douchiest of douches). Nothing against you or the title at all though bro...

It is a real violation of NCAA regs although minor. It doesn't matter that it was intentional. Nonetheless it is a violation. And as Hamilton clearly noted ND's Brian Hardin acknowledged it was brought to the attention on the ND Compliance Office. It was also noted that it was a minor situation. Military Irish's original title was correct, particularly with the question mark.
The question of Hamilton's character was established in his handling of the St Mary's coed saga. That has nothing to do with this issue and it certainly doesn't change Eifert's tweet. The SBT also ran a story on Effert's tweet this am, as did others. It was news. What your title change engendered was hate posts worthy of an Alabama or USC board by fans trying to misdirect the real issue, a violation. Let's leave the hate for NDNation to spew.

Never gotten all the hate for Hamilton.
He's a good journalist who in my opinion writes probably the smartest pieces on Notre Dame football of any print/broadcast media that regularly covers them (the better blogs, particularly One Foot Down, are in some ways superior, but really are a different beast).
I think Hansen at the SBT is good, if a little dull. And I like Keith Arnold, though it's worth noting that NBC is essentially a publicity arm of Notre Dame football. He's comprehensive, but rarely has a critical thing to say about anyone.
But Hamilton takes a big-picture approach, and has written a lot of insightful, incisive features on Notre Dame sports. Does he go a little overboard? Maybe once in awhile. But he's swinging for the fences. If I want stenography I'll just read UND.com.
Also, remember, he's writing for a big, general-interest daily where, frankly, the majority of readers don't see the world through blue-and-gold glasses. The ND message board crowd is not his primary concern.
I've never understood the hate for any journalist or ESPN. If you don't like what they produce, then don't pay attention to it.
Seeberg case in the Tribune?
Are you a freshman?
Are you related to him by blood or through marriage?
The ND message board crowd is not his primary concern.
The Beauty Shop...Updating my look. What do you think?
these kids really need to give up their twitter accounts...what good can come from broadcasting to the world the randowm thoughts of teenagers?
its only a matter of time (not if but when) before another yuri like twittergate scandal erupts in the college sports world. i light a candle it doesnt involve us at ND. opps it just did. (ps tee shepherd tweeting is i gurantee going to get him in trouble at some point----have you seen his? )
enough of the twitter BS ND football players
