Eifert tweeted about Smith visiting. Said he was looking forward to meeting him. Players and coaches can't comment on recruits publicly until they sign LOIs. Hamilton is just a douche who tweeted about it several times.

So can they respond to potential recruits just not tweet about them? I remember Sammy Watkins doing the exact same thing with Keith Marshall.

I wish Hamilton would play in traffic. Preferably during rush hour.

someone on ISD looked it up and the actual bylaw is...

NCAA Bylaw 13.10.5: "A member institution shall not publicize a prospective student-athlete’s visit..."

It doesn't say anything regarding student athletes, why would Hamilton add that? DOUCHEBAG

The Commuter has a story up already, saying Notre Dame will comment soon.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert evidently was excited to meet recruit Jaylon Smith on the prospect's imminent visit to campus. Perhaps a little too excited, as it turns out.

A post on Eifert's Twitter account Friday night may have run afoul of NCAA restrictions on a current student-athlete publicizing a prospective student-athlete's visit to campus, which could be considered an "institutional" violation.

A Notre Dame statement is expected Friday night.

Just before 8 p.m. ET on Friday, Eifert posted the following message to his Twitter account: "Big recruiting day tomorrow here at ND. Looking forward to meeting and hangin with 5 star Fort Wayne native @JaeeSmiff9ENT"

The Twitter handle in that tweet belongs to Smith, a linebacker from Bishop Luers High School in Eifert's hometown of Fort Wayne, Ind. And that message seemingly is in violation of NCAA bylaw 13.10.5, which refers to publicization of a prospective student-athlete's visit.

"A member institution shall not publicize (or arrange for publicity of) a prospective student-athlete’s visit to the institution’s campus," the bylaw reads. "Violations of this bylaw do not affect a prospective student-athlete’s eligibility and are considered institutional violations per Constitution 2.8.1."

An NCAA spokesman added via email: "So a student-athlete cannot publicize a prospective student-athlete's visit to his or her institution's campus."

Eifert's tweet was later deleted from his account.

Still, even if Eifert's tweet indeed broke NCAA rules, Notre Dame may not have a steep price to pay. Without commenting specifically on this instance, the NCAA spokesman said that secondary violations are those considered "isolated" and "inadvertent" and offering "no competitive advantage."

Screw the NCAA this makes news yet the enitre SEC can basically openly is a semi-pro league and don't get looked at? I really hope we go to super confrences so they lose all power all together.

dude, it makes news because of Brian Hamilton and no other reason. NCAA said it doesn't offer any competitive advantage and is inadvertent, no penalty. Hamilton meanwhile tweeted about it 5 times, wrote a "story" on it, tweeted that link with a misleading headline, then added Notre Dame's statement and tweeted the link again. He is a spiteful human being.

As someone mentioned, what a fine line it is between having a conversation with a prospective athlete and "promoting" a prospective athlete. I would imagine NCAA tells ND to have a little meeting over rules and brush it aside.

Let's move the violation discussion over to Military Irish's thread. No need to clog up Jaylon's space. Hopefully a lot of positive discussion on him this weekend being he's visiting!!! Prayer beads and candles out!

I'm sure Kelly and Jaylon will have a good laugh about it tomorrow.

BK - chuckles while saying "Yes, Tyler was a little over zealous, but we'll work through any issues. Sorry for causing any unwanted attention Jaylon"

JS - sleep deprived after an all night ND love fest with Tyler, Ishaq, and Tee.. "No worries Coach Kelly. Nothing but love. So much love, I'm going to give you my commit today"

BK - after Jaylon departs, on the phone with Tyler. "Tyler, great job with Jaylon. He just gave me some very good news"

Tyler - "Coach, about those 20 cross countries for the tweet?"

BK - "Jaylon said he's happy to join you tomorrow AM if you'd like to get them out of the way"

Tyler - "Uh, OK coach."

Sectional Championship game is indeed Monday night. So Jaylon's visit won't be cut short at all.

Below is the news article about the game last night. It looks like he was so excited about his visit to ND that he missed a lot of shots, at least according to his coach. Could be an excuse .... or the coach could really tell how excited Jaylon was about the visit.

Luers advances on late shot

BERNE – Junior Dwight Richards summed up the moment like this: “That’s what I do – big plays, big plays.”

Few were bigger than the one he made late Friday night.

With just less than two seconds remaining in the Class 2A sectional semifinal at South Adams, having just missed a shot from the corner, he nailed a 15-foot jump shot to lift Bishop Luers to a 46-44 victory over Bluffton.

The Knights will face Adams Central on Monday night.

“Dwight, when he had those two looks, those are the types of shots he can make,” Knights coach James Blackmon Sr. said. “I was surprised he got that open. What we did was run an offensive set and try to milk the clock. … Toward the end of that offense, it pretty much spread out like we wanted to. We had a couple options, and Dwight was one of the options.”

Jaylon Smith, who missed 15 of 18 shots before fouling out with 2:01 remaining, scored 12 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the Knights (14-8). He was replaced by Richards.

Smith, also a linebacker, has a football recruiting visit at Notre Dame today, Blackmon said.

“There were a lot of shots he would normally make. It was a frustrating night for him, but his effort was there,” Blackmon said. “I’m pretty sure (the Notre Dame) visit had something to do with his concentration.”

Bishop Luers led 44-42 when Smith fouled out. Bluffton’s Keith Cochran tied it at 44 with 56 seconds left.

The Tigers had their chances to take advantage of Smith’s departure, but, they missed key shots.

Bluffton (18-5) made 33.3 percent of its shots, including 16.7 percent in the second half.

Bishop Luers shot 29.5 percent, but its 25 percent second-half rate was enough.

Cochran, the 6-foot-11 1/4 senior, had 12 points, 19 rebounds and five blocks, but he was 3 of 15 from the field. Chandler Prible, a junior, had 11 points and six assists.

“When we had to play good defense, we did. It was a close game. But big plays, big shots, that’s what Bishop Luers basketball does,” said Richards, who had four points.

Teammate Michael Rogers had eight points, and Colin Stuerzenberger had seven as the Knights continued their run without sophomore James Blackmon Jr., an Indiana recruit who is out for the season with a knee injury.
