I bet Reeves contributed too. Urban may figure that he has to keep a spot open for Diggs because Diggs is just that good, and if he doesn't get him, Reeves is a good enough slot WR/CB type that he doesn't lose much by passing on Neal.

Edit: that's assuming it's true that OSU dropped him ... I have yet to see that from an authoritative source.

Rivals had it.

So I'm guessing IF Neal picks Notre Dame he will play corner? Thats what it sounds like reading this board

I've been thinking about that and I don't know ... we have more options at corner than I realized until recently ... Turner is a high school cornerback, Matthias Farley was recruitied as a DB, Prosise can play corner ... plus Brian Kelly said today that the defensive coaches seem ok with the five corners they have right now and they probably WONT move anyone to corner. So I think whether Neal plays corner or WR will depend not so much on the current distribution of players as on what BK thinks will get Neal to his fullest potential, and I personally think, and I think the general feeling is, that he is a REALLY promising slot WR.

Edit: just reread Kelly's interview and I really butchered what he said about the CB position. His point was that the coaching staff felt that they have plenty of guys who can play cornerback if they feel like they have depth issues there and they may indeed move a guy or two to cornerback.

No he's way to dynamic to play corner. Also is undersized for what we like to do.

I would love to see him at the slot. I think he is too athletic and shifty to not play slot

IMO If we got him he would be our version of Deanthony Thomas. The two are so similar. Thomas is a little faster but Neal breaks more tackles.

does anyone believe he actually tried to commit today after following this recruitment?

Great comparison. I never thought of that.

Neal is a guy you get the ball to 8 times a game. Can't do that on D. Would be Rocket Man like.

Not really.
And thought I saw a tweet or something from another reporter (ESPN's Biggins?) who was in Neal's house today saying there was nothing of the sort going on. Though I can't find it amid the current blizzard of recruiting news.
I'd guess only two parties know what's really going on, Neal and OSU. Wouldn't be shocked if Meyer fed the story to the Rivals guy as some sort of Jedi mind trick to get Neal to jump. Devious mofo.

I saw this Biggins thing too, but only on message boards, and I've seen it phrased a couple of different ways, which indicates to me that it might be a rumor. It is plausible, though, because ESPN was filming something about Neal this week.

add this to the list in old Urbanski's thread please and BB thanks you

I'M BB! NOT BUSTER! lol Screw it...

I think TP alluded to academics possibly being an issue for Neal, not that today is a day for lending credence to some of the things he's gone on record with.

It was TerryTate, not TP.

Yeah, TP's "credibility" is less than stellar at this juncture.

Buzz buzz

I sincerely hope that Mr. Neal's grades are up to par with ND's standards

I don't know what TP reported that was bullshit on any level and should ruin his credibility. People keep referring to his saying we will have 19 in this class, and last night I was telling everyone that I thought he was joking. I was right.

When have I complained about someone not going to Notre Dame?

Pretty sure I saw you complaining about Greenberry today on Facebook. lol

Now I'm not trying to hate on any of you guys. I consider you friends. I think everybody is just in a fluster from a seemingly disappointing signing day. Gather your cool and move on. Like I've said before, when this is the kind of stuff driving you nuts, consider how good your life must be! Love y'all! :)

I know the general opinion of Mike Farrell around here is that he sucks, but he is very sure of his info. Tweeted this:

I stand by my information, very good sources. I don't know the reason why, only #OhioState does but Neal won't end up there

You're setting yourself up for another temper tantrum

Nah I will be fine. I don't expect us to land Neal. I'm 27 years old and I've learned to live with the mediocrity of Notre Dame football. The thing that I do painfully remind myself is, take away Sparty's fake field goal and the Tulsa game in Kelly's first year as well as the Wal-Mart Wolverine game and USF this year. Kelly would be 20-6 instead of 16-10. Not to mention Navy 2 years ago. If every thing went right. As we all know, our Irish ran into some bad luck or whatever you want to call it. Good classes back to back considering being 16 and 10 the past 2 seasons. All in all, I do like what BK is doing. When Notre Dame can win 9 to 10 games year in and year out, that's when the Echoes will be awoken. It most likely won't be next year folks, unless we have a breakout QB and a great special teams play. 2013 is the year when Notre Dame should be close to regaining prominence.

All right, but Farrell also tweeted earlier in the same day (today!) something to the effect of "hearing Neal to OSU." Doesn't sound like the most credible guy.

News can change fast, especially in the recruiting world. And you're dealing with sources who may not be reading from the same page. Maybe Farrell heard OSU from Neal's camp, then OSU told him "not gonna happen." I'd cut him a little slack. Doesn't mean he's right, or that the news won't change again. But I'd think he has better sources than we do.

lol totally. off topic side note: Sapp and I were classmates at ND, although we didn't know each other at all. I'm going to see him at a mutual friend's wedding this spring and I can't wait to ask him about some of this stuff. Curious to know what goes on behind the scences at 247.

Something must have happened today... Urban slipped about Neal being with us earlier today (maybe that's why!?! - potential violation if he commits b/c Urban talked about him before that, I have no idea...).

I was thinking that too. I would say a slip up shouldn't be taken so seriously, but the NCAA gets butt hurt over the most retarded things.

So ND could win by default. Lame.

Yeah over the most retarded things

OSU might have dropped him but I think this pretty much confirms he didn't try to commit:

@jeremycrabtree: @GregBiggins: Sitting out signing day. While spotlight shined on his fellow top prospects, Davonte Neal went to class. http://t.co/XutWxZkD

hah... I got that feeling tonight as well listening to Mikey Frank and his Delta Bravo sidekick dropping F-bomb after F-Bomb. Nothing says credibility like cursing like a drunken Jersey Chick on a recruiting podcast.

Don't feel like reading through the thread, but according to II - the OSU in-home with Meyer didn't go well.

I was wondering why I couldn't find that podcast. Did the same thing after we **** the bed against FSU. You stay classy Mike Frank.
