Agreed.

We should be looking at it like this: If he somehow decides to flip at the last second, it'd be an amazing coup to add to an already solid class. If he doesn't, well we never realistically expected anything from the kid anyway.

It's comical how Irish nation went from glee and "WE MOMENTUM NOW" after Kiel signed to... well, this.

It's not comical... we expected to close the class with Armstead/Armstead/Standifer/one of Yuri Wright, Darby, Poole, Marcus Rios or Neal. This also why we told Decker to get lost rather than fight to keep him.

We then missed on the Armsteads because Armond wasn't cleared. Standifer had grade issues. Yuri Wright had his twitter fiasco. Darby had issues I won't get into. Marcus Rios was hours away from getting on a flight to South Bend before UCLA admitted him for early enrollment. And then we couldn't flip Poole.

All things considered if Yuri Wright just doesn't get socially assassinated by disgruntled Michigan fans and Darby had decommited earlier to give us time to push for Rios we still end with a damn good class. Horrible luck.

Sorry if this has already been said (Free) Closer then the experts think? Yes, I'm grasping to what I can:

Recruiting Week In Review

"“It was about 60/40 for Florida, now it’s at least 55/45 and that’s from his word,” said Poole, Sr. “You just never know.”

“It’s forty-two months of his life to set him up for the next forty years. Whatever decision he comes up with, that’s how we are basically looking at it.”

"“We’re discussing things and getting to the point of what he is looking for,” said Poole, Sr. “We don’t want him to worry about distance; we told him to let us worry about the distance.”"

Poole Sr. apparently said all those things before the weekend, even before the visit from Florida's coaches. Brian has made his pro-Florida statements since then, unless the ESPN article posted last night (I wasn't able to read all of it; not a subscriber) was also using an old quote.

This is beyond encouraging...

It went very well, very well,” said Brian Poole, Sr., Poole’s father. “We had a lot of people there. All of my brothers were there, my uncle, Brian’s mother, it went very well.

and

He’s coming up with his list of things about both schools,” Poole, Sr. informed. “Playing time will be important too and I feel like that points to Notre Dame.

For the record, I can only take 2 bet. I only have about 70k, so gkirish and irishbird, we have a deal.

Hopefully I'm broke after this!

Edit: A bit of simple arithmetic shows that I only have 65k in v-bucks. Can we adjust the bet to 30,000 v-bucks to your 8,000, or whatever you guys think is fair? If it makes you feel better, this how I make my real-life bets too ;)

whoa... I hope he sits down with his parents and go over the pro's and con's of each school and makes a well thought out, smart, 40 year decision.

Good luck, Brian.

@tshepard08 @ElijahShumate and @JustPooleN_It gonna be doing big things in the ND secondary the next 4 yrs #Irish

Doesn't mean a damn thing. Just something Elijah Shumate re-tweeted. It would appear they're doing their part to bring in Poole, though. So kudos to them for that.

I don't want to overlook this comment:

Seeing those three names together really puts things into focus for me. I love Darby and his insane speed, but Poole might compliment Tee and Shumate better. Tee and Shumate are physical guys and teams would have put their big possession receivers on Darby. They wouldn't expect the big receiver to ever beat Darby's speed, but they will throw it up and let the receiver over physical Darby. No one would do that to Poole, and pick your poison between him and Tee. It would be a very physical secondary paired with an attacking front 7. I dig...

Poole would make this a world class secondary coup. I am still not overly optimistic, but stranger things have happened.

I really want to be wrong but to me at least the 55/45 is telling it's saying the Irish came close but just short.

I think ND got him thinking more about it but unless it's 50/50 or better in ND's favor all he's saying is that he's a UF commit that took a good long hard look at ND.

Now if it was truly 50/50 then that would mean that he's struggling with the decision and even then it's a flip of the coin if he come to ND.

I don't mean to be a downer just a realist that just doesn't see Poole happening but make no doubt about it I would love to be wrong about this, I'll be downright giddy to be wrong.

Per Sapp he thinks we got as close as 49/51 but never took the lead. As of last night the staff had not heard anything from the Poole camp about him changing his committment.

Just for the smell of it, who retweeted that?

I have very mixed feelings about writing this:

Darby, insane speed - There is a great ISD article about Nick Baratti being faster in 10 and 20 yards than Darby or Bracy. Also, many people were all in love with Darby for streaking across the field to congratulate Poole on his pick-6. I would rather have the guy with the pick-6.

I like Pooles athleticism and thick build. I think he is a lot more durable as an every back corner, which is what ND needs.

If we can't have Poole, do not dispair. We have four or maybe five guys, that can play with Tee, that probably have a significantly higher upside than Notre Dame has had for years.

Considering the odds may be as close as 51:49, I got my vbucks in at the right time at 3.5:1

But it isn't over just yet....

Maybe an 11th hour push by dear old dad can get Brian over that hill and into the Irish family

Has anyone seen comments from Poole's dad since this article, which I think was right after Kelly's in-home? Would feel better if this sort of thing has been said in the last day or two rather than last Thursday, in light of the kid's more recent pro-UF comments.
