I like Darby, think he's a an excellent young man and obviously a great player.
That said, to me it would be a little bit of a slap in the face to leave us in the conversation if he knows he's going to announce someone else. If he knows he's not coming to Notre Dame, respect us enough to leave us out of that show.
Maybe he doesn't know where he is going today, but he will before the announcement and if it's not us, tell us and go with the other 4 "hats".

If it really is the case, and he's no longer interested, he should've just dropped us all together when he decommitted.

Darby is gone, either FSU or Clemson IMO. I think he wants to stay east and where it's warm and those two fit. Good Luck!

Yes. Niklas was another late decider who picked ND in a televised decision. But that's a rarity for us. In recent years, most recruits who have played the televised hat game on NSD haven't chosen ND.

I can't see him coming back...but this staff has pulled off some great upsets already...so I'm going to try to stay optimistic. But I don't expect Darby to come back into the fold.
Someday the "hat game" will be a positive for ND...have faith in that.

I'd like to think if we were "out of the running," he'd say so, and wouldn't be wasting Brian Kelly's time by having a home visit this week. But it seems like FSU has jumped ahead of us in his eyes, for reasons that make some sense, if you're Ronald Darby (track, friends, weather, and it's not like they suck at the football). I was more baffled when it was Clemson and Auburn he reportedly preferred.
That said, if he's going to do the hat game and we're not going to win it, I'd just as soon he leave the ND hat in the bag altogether. We don't need to be anyone's second place.
