@NDatRivals:

Slimy bugger finds a way to get the last word.

Hehe, I can definately see Kelly say to Meyer: ''I'll take you by your word, Number 2.'' Then, Denbrock passes by Urban and says: ''Aurevoir, numéro deux.'' and enter Neal's house.

You think he was trying to get the last word? I'm not totally convinced he wasn't ducking a front yard confrontation with BK.

Meyer: "Wait. Kelly's gonna be there, too!? Ummm..." *grabs at chest* "HNNNG. Gonna have to postpone with Neal."

It's amazing that a kid could have this concern and still consider playing for Urban. How could a kid so seemingly intelligent not understand that Urban is feeding him crap. If he tears his ACL as a freshman, then he can forget about playing football at a scholarship strapped (sanctions) OSU team. He will be replaced by the next great recruit. At that point, he will have an OSU degree to fall back on instead of a Notre Dame degree.

Notre Dame will not only offer him a better degree, but we will also honor his scholarship. If what he says is truly how he feels, this should be a no brainer.

I hope our coaches negatively recruit when it's appropriate. Not that I want them to be dirty, but these kids deserve to know things coaches do, such as what Wooly said above.

These comments by him are really promising and after watching his video again, I really hope he chooses ND. The kid is crazy shifty and it looks like the film is in fast forward!

Agree 100%

While some may advocate taking the high road (which I usually am for) if they want to negatively recruit ND, then it's on....

All is fair in recruiting wars, and I don't mind having a relentless staff that doesn't mind "rolling up their sleeves"

I've never really understood the aversion of some to negative recruiting by ND. It'd be like trying to litigate a case while voluntarily avoiding pointing out any deficiencies in your adversary's case. In other words, not a winning strategy.

I think Kelly has shown he's a pretty tenacious recruiter. I doubt he leaves much unsaid that could help the cause. I choose to believe he wouldn't lie, mainly because he doesn't need to - the actual differences between ND and other schools will be enough with kids that belong at ND. But anything short of lying? I have seen nothing from BK that would lead me to believe his isn't going HAM.

WJ, RI, et al, interesting discussion on recruiting tactics and opponent's coaches but it's got nothing to do with this Recruit's Profile. It applies to Recruiting In General so take that discussion to the Recruiting Forum and start a Thread there on the topic.

People come to the Recruit Profile's looking for updates/info on the recruit. Each time one of you post on these tangent topics it move the Recruit's Thread to the top of the front page. People open the thread anticipating news and find none.

As for Neal. I understand he doesn't plan a decision until after Feb 10 (last OV).

Gotcha...

So he's waiting that long... Kind of a bummer.

It's ok though, because Kelly is relentless

Notre Dame arrives in style to see Neal

Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly, co-defensive coordinator Kerry Cooks and receivers coach Tony Alford showed up Thursday at Luke Neal's home in a black Escalade. They rented it after coming in on a private jet, Neal said.

The coaches came for a home visit with Scottsdale Chaparral receiver/cornerback Davonte' Neal, who said Wednesday that he would take his last official visit to the University of Arizona on Feb.11, before deciding which college he would attend.

"That was pretty funny," Davonte' said of the Notre Dame coaches showing up in the black Escalade.

Neal's first official recruiting trip was to Notre Dame, which this week saw prized quarterback Gunner Kiel enrol in the school.

"It went really good," Neal said. "I had a good conversation with the coaches.

"They came in to talk about the program. I just sat back and listened."

Neal has visited Notre Dame and Ohio State and will visit Arkansas this weekend. He said all of the schools on his visit list have told him that they would wait for him with a scholarship, even though it is going to be at least 10 days after the Feb. 1 Signing Day.

"I like to know that there is a school that wants me that bad," Neal said.

Davonte' also wouldn't say UA was the favorite just because he is looking into the Wildcats last at such a late date.

"I'm open to anywhere," Davonte' said. "I've not decided on where I want to be. I'm open to all the schools. All are evenly matched."

Luke Neal said he expects to hear back from Arizona State this week about visiting Monday with coach Todd Graham. He said Davonte' is open to meeting with ASU.

Luke said the Notre Dame coaches didn't push football onto his son as much as academics and what a degree at Notre Dame means.

"Their stance was, 'We're not recruiting you for football, but what the reality of life is,' '' Luke said. "I think that's how they recruit kids. They give you the information and lets you know, 'You have to understand what the degree is worth.' ''

From the sound of this article, his father seems to understand what the degree means. That's good for us.

Escalade? What ever happened to the multiple Mercedes Benz that the coaches used to pull into Tuitt's driveway? That was always my personal favorite "Notre Dame has come for a quick chat" moment.

It's like 5 knocks on the door you know it is the FBI. Everytime you see multiple black Mercedes roll into the driveway, well ND is here to talk some business

On Kelly and helicopters:

When Cincinnati Coach Brian Kelly and four of his staff members buzzed around town to five games on a recent Friday night, the intent was clear. The Bearcats had coaches on the ground at each game to be sure the game was not at halftime when they arrived, assuring them maximum attention. One school’s student sections chanted, “Brian Kelly” (clap, clap, clap clap clap) upon his arrival. Mission accomplished.

“We said, ‘Let’s really make a presence, let’s do a Tom Cruise fly-by and make sure that we drop it down where we make a good impression,’ ” Kelly said. “We’re using it to get to games, but if by chance you make it a big event, so be it.”

The Bearcats created such a splash with the helicopter that they got more buzz than visiting coaches from programs like Texas, Alabama and Notre Dame. The Cincinnati recruiting coordinator, Tim Hinton, said an assistant coach from Texas text-messaged another coach in amazement. Hinton could only laugh.

“It wasn’t an evaluation process,” Hinton said. “It was a sell process, that’s what it was about. It gave us an opportunity to take the time and effort to do things as first class as we can.”

If it's the quote about Neal saying Kiel is a big factor, it was posted yesterday. I don't think there can be much more to it than that.
